Another blast from the past

Post24 Jul 2016, 16:28

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-track-playe ... true&rt=nc

The earlier version of a none record-able mini disk.
With about the same longevity. ;-)

Especially if it's a Lotus!!
Or the Escort Mk1 and the Mini Cooper / Ghibli / Citreon SM / Stratos / 2002 Ti / Dino / Cobra / E type /Cresta Deluxe (good luck even finding one of those in top condition only 42 left registered on GB roads today) My late / eldest brother had one in cream with a brown vinyl roof (with 8 track) 3.3 straight 6 went like S**t off a shovel for it's day/size.
There's just so many everyday cars from around that era that are getting rare/expensive it's just mind boggling.
Hey this list could just grow and grow.!
Anyone want to add??

yeah, a few details different though, the original car has chrome rostyles not mini-lite wheels as per pic. And the mirrors were teardrop type mounted on the doors , not the wings, no lucas square eight fogs either. Hard to notice on the pic but the low gloss (sure it was "low gloss" not "matt" black bonnet) actually overlaps onto the wings. Cant be many left now

Here's something for you: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/trigge ... tags/viva/

I especially enjoyed reading the Car Magazine 1968 Giant test up against one of the cars I mentioned above.

Well it is not European, but I did buy it in 1974 in high school. Here it is in 2008:

Still have it but have done a complete rebuild from frame up. The clock is jewelled and electrodynamic.

And so you should Mick.
I always enjoyed driving metro's as they stuck to the road like a big go-cart.
I believe it was down to two things, low centre of gravity and this:

Hi Geoff nice 8-) I like it. ;-) What is it?
In the top photo the front looks a little like a Toyota Celica Ta 22, GT?

Super nice condition. I learnt to drive in one of those, (if it is)

Still say they nicked the arse end from the Vauxhall Firenza.

380,000 miles!

Body copied the 69 camaro/firebird.

380'000

I can see the resemblance at the front:

But not the rear looking at it from the back,
still looks like firenza to me.

A shortened, flatter version admitted.

Still a bloody nice car what?
And well done on the very nice rebuild.

Anyone else got a blast from the past?
Hung on to or let go of. :?:

If we get 3 more I'll post my first vehicle so you can all have a good laugh.

.

Heres another vote for Celica’s of the 1970s mini-mustang variety.

Back in the 80s I had no less than 4 Celica’s. The one that I was most fond of was a tweaked up 1978 2000 GT twin-cam Liftback (RA-28), pushing out around 220bhp in a car that weighed less than a Fiat Punto. Besides considerable engine mods, it also had uprated brakes, an LSD, fatter tyres, lowered this that and the other and would see off contemporary 911’s (well, I was young ..). It even went round bends noticeably better than stock. It was such a hoot to drive that I kept it for years and years whilst other cars came and went.

The one lasting problem was due to experimenting with various exhaust systems and manifolds ending up with an incredibly loud twin-bore slash cut pair of pipes sticking out the back, that had less than 1 silencer. It sounded amazing, but according to the doc, its this which probably caused my Tinnitus !!

I eventually sold it to my best mates brother who continued driving it until the mid 90’s before stacking it into a tree. It then had a big v-shaped dent right in the front so he painted a big yellow zig-zag explosion type image on it, and ran it for a while longer until it failed the MOT . . . due to the front wheels being a bit closer together than they should have been :-D

He then put it in his shed planning to one day restore it, but I suspect its turned into a giant pyramid shaped pile of Fe2O3.nH2O by now !

Wow..greats cars you all have. supernice.

my dad had a red Datsun 120 y coupe around 1975.

Image

we drove 4 times on vacations to Italy (Garda region) with it...around 1250 km. That along with a small 4 person Adria Caravan behind it, driving close behind a big truck so we could benefit from the trucks draft :-D Sometimes the small car could not get close enough to the truck when it was driving in the mountains and we all 4 starts to move our body from front to back to help the car...lol. It really worked M:)W:)M Great times.

I bought my first car when i was 20 years old...my moms car was broken and i needed a new one. I could do a great deal back then and bought me a silver Alfa Romeo spider..it was only a few months old because a rich man bought it for his wife to drive, but it didn't had servo steering back then, she could not drive it. So he sold it pretty cheap....to me :grin1:

I've been driving it for 28 years now...i have other cars but this one is still my favorite and i use it every summer to drive around :-D
