P1 vs Sport size difference

Post27 Nov 2008, 00:23

Hello all,

I've read that the Sport is a scaled down version of the P1. Does anyone have pics of the two together? Just curious as to how much smaller the Sport is. I have a Sport, sadly, I don't have a P1.

Seems like this topic came up again a while ago, but a re-visit is OK... The Mens' Sport model is closely based on the P1 Limited Edition, with three important differences; first, the case is scaled down in size by about twenty percent, second, it is in stainless steel only, and third, it is fitted with an 801 touch-command module, and is activated by touch, rather than with magnets and reed switches [this module also has day, date, and DOW functions, unlike the P1, which was time-only]. The bracelet style is identical to the P1 [in fact , this bracelet type is used on about a dozen different Pulsar models; they got a lot of mileage out of that design]. Somewhere in my image files I have a side-by-side comparison of the two watches [really, next to the P1, the Sport almost looks like a kids' watch]; if I can find it I will forward it to Ed so he can do a proper job of posting it here. A single variation exists among the Sport cases; some have the Pulsar logo stamped into the case [P1 style]...others have the logo on the timescreen in more typical Pulsar fashion. Logo-on-case type is perhaps a bit more desirable, as it more closely resembles the Limited Edition.

I misread the question asked  - the difference between a P1 and a Sport, not a P2 and a Sport(I think my brain figured Sully wanted to compare to something he might realistical get).

Bruce - please send a picture of a P1 and a Sport together, I don't have a P1 so I am useless on the question asked. DOUH!! :x

P1-Sport pic is now in the Gallery. Like I said, next to the P1, the Sport looks sort of like a kids' watch. The design relationship is obvious here...

Bruce,

Thank you for that comparison picture. The P1 really is a beautiful watch and I can only imagine what it looks/feels like in person.

Understated, elegant, heavy, amazing. Those are the impressions most people come away with. Beyond that, there is the historical significance, which even Time Computer recognized when it introduced the Sport [a kind of homage in stainless steel] just five years later. It's a pity so few remain for collectors to cherish [with all due respect for certain quarters, it is now more than a third of a century and counting, and less than one in eight is accounted for...at this rate, the last of them won't show up until about the time regular shuttle service opens up between Earth and Alpha Centuri...I think another ten or so may be found in the next fifteen or twenty years, and that is going to be the end, no more hidden drawers or unopened safe-deposit boxes]. The next best thing might be the discovery of the TC sales records of the original buyers: I bet there would be a fair number of familiar names. On the Sport, I do prefer the version with the logo on the case [for obvious reasons]; almost a shame they never did a goldfill version.

I have recently had the privilege of wearing the P1, albeit for a minute or two, I would say it is all that you think - and more besides, absolutely stunning time piece!
