Pulsar Display Stand

Post01 May 2012, 15:21

Hi All.
I just picked up this cool Pulsar LED display stand:
Image

Sorry about the picture quality...........it's from the lsiting. I don't think it's complete, and doesn't appear to be in great condition, but I'm sure it's quite rare, so I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
There's a similar one on Juergens website:

http://ledwatch.de/agents.htm

His one rotates the watch I think, and is connected to mains power with a special caseback for permanently powering the watch. Not sure if this one is the same (missing the base), or if it's another version. I'll upload better pictures when it arrives.

Nice find. These Pulsar shop display stands are very rare. I own the one on Jurgens web site, and know of one other not including this one which shows an Executive. They do not rotate the watch, a connector plug fits into the back and you can choose different display cycles, ( well on the one I own ).

Thanks Gentlemen.
I'm not sure why I thought it rotated. Perhaps this is just what I thought it should do :-D .
I thought it was pretty rare. Your one is the only reference I can find on the net.
It had a BIN price, but I waited for a shipping quote before pulling the trigger. I was a bit anxious waiting for the quote, but it was so poorly listed that I was reasonably confident no-one else would snap it up. It did have 53 views though ............perhaps people didn't properly recognise it, perhaps the condition put a few people off, or perhaps it had been viewed by non-LED collectors !@@! .

Anyway, I can see a few difference between mine and yours:
1. Obviously mine is in French, yours is in English.
2. Yours has a base, mine doesn't.
3. The left vertical side on yours wraps back under the top section for attachment to the base. Mine doesn't. It's cut-off early. Not sure if it's broken, or if it's meant to be this way. It looks like a nice clean cut/edge though.
3. The horizontal part of yours directly under the watch holder has the corners cut off on the left side so that it forms a wedge shape. Mine just ends at 90 degrees. (or is that just a shadow ?)
4. Mine looks to be a purple plastic colour, yours looks to be timber or some sort of faux-timber.

Since mine doesn't have a base, perhaps it was intended as a more generic display stand (i.e. the base shows the specific intended model). That is of course if mine never had a base !

I guess it will become clearer when it arrives :-?

No secret Egomon.
It was 25Euro plus 25Euro shipping. So 50Euro all up.

Wow, deal of the century. Once we see full pics we can compare and work out missing parts.

Well it arrived today ! Here are some quick images:
Image
I loaded it with a nice P3 to put it into context. Sorry, I should've straightened the P3 before clicking !@@!

Image
This is the left vertical side. As you can see, the part that wraps around underneath the display looks to have been somehow cut. The cut is smooth and straight, but not parallel to the top or bottom. There are also remnants of a paper label or sticker.

Image
This is the bottom. There is no hole which I presume should be there for the brass/gold support post evident on Mr. Frequency's. Is this where the wires to power the special caseback should run ?

Image
...and this is the back. Note the small crack.

I think it's been cut-down from the full size unit. The only thing that puzzles me is where the wiring would run. I had assumed it would've run up through the bottom.
Rgds,
Andrew.

That's a nice table Mr. Frequency !
I'll have the one on the far left and the one on the far right

Thanks for the display stand close-ups. It's definately a different version. My one was clearly never "electrified". The little nook that the watch collar sits in is completely enclosed on mine. There is no cutout to allow for entry of the special caseback.

Interesting to see the caseback too. It appears to have electromagnets to operate the command switches. I was thinking this was how it must have operated.

I also notice that the 3 Year Guarantee is mentioned on mine as an additional point, whereas it's mentioned on the base of yours.

I guess until another one turns up, we'll never know exactly how mine was configured.

The analogue watch on the bottom right hand side of the first photograph next to the Pulsar Big Time, is that a P1 Frankenstein?

Yes it's the 18k LE calculator conversion, with unbelievable for me "hands". Funny I only collect LED's, but this 18k Pulsar conversion is a oddity and now my daily wearer.
