It's been a long while since I've been here. Too busy these days to loiter, but quietly acquiring a few interesting LEDs when I have the chance. Actually, I've crossed over the the Darkside and been buying Accutrons mostly. I think it was a thread on here somewhere that got me interested in them...
Anyway, to the story at hand... I cracked open a Stainless Steel P3 today I'd just received. I was first super surprised to see the original RW25 batteries installed. To date this is the first Pulsar I've received that hadn't been previously molested by someone before I got to it. The batteries had leaked in the battery compartment, but didn't look too bad. I popped out the batteries and cleaned the leakage away. It looked really good inside. No signs of some doofus soldiering stuff into random places. It looked strange though. Where was the QC and the adjustment screw on the battery side? I took the case screws out and carefully pulled the module out of the case. I flipped it over and found a P4 module installed on the P3 carrier! I haven't seen this before on a module which likely hasn't been opened since it came from the factory or the last repair job it got in the 70s. I've seen a few on Ebay that have been altered with P4 modules more recently, but not one from the 70s. The module has the Auto Set function rather than magnet set. I hooked up a battery and it works like a charm. It has the solid line display rather than the P3 dot display.
Anyway, an anomaly I haven't seen before. I'm sure there's a few of you that have.
Now I just need a Stainless Steel band for it. I'm pretty darn happy it lights up!
