Phil,

So are you simply soldering in a jumper wire to connect pins 5 and 8 together?

errr, no, definately not! When the heat variable resistors break down that Ive shown in the diagram and pictures above, these are oscillator components and will cause an oscillator failure, what Im saying is that if you replace them with resisitor of known values you can get the watch to run. This is something for experienced electronic experimentors to try because it takes some micro-soldering and experimenting to achieve, but once you figure it out the first time it gets very easy to do again.
