Where would I find a back for Pulsar 3100?

Post25 Aug 2004, 23:16

Looking to replace an engraved back with a NOS or "Like New" part.... Anyone know where I could find one? Should be a few kicking around since the case back is a durable part and usually the last thing to go?

(Sorry for posting this "Ad" here in General, but there is no parts marketplace here)

The back is usually the first thing to go, people trying to undo them without the correct tool has left a lot of them with scratches, also if the watch is worn a lot the back looses it's brushed finish and goes shiney, but then you could allways renovate one ;)

which finish are you looking for?

Haha, does the back read "John loves marry" or something similar?

I?d never care about the back, it can?t be seen when you wear it. Or do you plan on selling it for a good price?

I love backs that have inscriptions. They have a history and it saddens me that a watch that has a "From/To" inscription ends up on Ebay. I got a Wittnauer Polara LED once that had an interesting inscription on the clasp. it said "To Cliff. Rockwell Friends. 1981". I wondered who they were and I even tried doing a search on the net, regarding "Rockwell Friends" but nothing came up. I also thought it was odd that Cliff got that watch in '81, since hardly anyone in the 80's wore LED's any longer; it just wasn't "in" or fashonable. Maybe that's why the watch was in such good shape. :)

Haha.. yes im joking...... But I do have a Pulsar owned by the Horror character Jason, ( think the name was Jason), the masked killer in the film Halloween. He sent me some signed photos to go with the watch. I know a few collectors that have famous pre owned Pulsar's, but I will let them tell you their stories.
Might be a good topic to put on my site, if this forum gets full up ;)

I have a P3 which was owned by a songwriter named Billy Sherrill.... Billy who? I hear you ask??? He's the guy who wrote just about every famous Country and Western hit that there ever was.

It was given to him and engraved on the back from Tammy Wynette with her thanks for writing ''Stand by your man''.

He never wore it and I bought it from his daughter, I love looking at that inscription!

My favourite engraving that I even do not want to remove is:
"I love you more today than yesterday, Babe" :D
It gives the watch more character and a nice warm feeling.

Like you, I don't like the inscriptions. I removed one from a stainless steel back yesterday by placing a piece of 400 grit wet sanding paper on a flat table, added water, and then just started rubbing back and forth in the direction of the brushed finish. I was able to remove it completely. It just depends on how deep the engraver went.

I've done this a couple of times. It is harder with the gold fill back because you may go through the gold before you get the engraving out, but with a SS back, you can go much deeper.
