P2 LED watch with SASM10

Post30 Aug 2011, 20:20

If you are not interested in replacement modules, you can stop reading right now. However I made a "rare" find at ebay Germany, item number 220826233095. When I started to produce LED watch modules, the SASM10 and SASM20 have been the very first series of modules which have been delivered (probably 15-25 modules). Because of chip problems I gave all customers the opportunity to change them into SASM13 or 23 movements without any costs. So I discarded all modules and used their displays on the new circuit. About 2 years ago I wanted to show the evolution of the P2 modules in a frame on a wall, but without success. I had neither parts nor complete SASM10 or 20 modules. When I saw the ebay auction, I had to read the text to have a closer look at the picture. Small processor under the display - that seems to be a SASM10! I was very happy and hit the BIN button immediately. If you are the owner of such a module, please let me know. Moreover I still offer free replacement modules, because I guess they only have a personal value for me.

If you would like to know a bit more on these modules, I have a short manual available on my website.

Here´re two pics of the auction and of the (working) module which I have removed from that watch.

Hanno,

This is fascinating. Glad you were able to find an SASM10 - that would seem to be an impossible task.

It would be interesting to hear the story of your development process - not so much from a technical perspective (although that would also be interesting too, although some of it might be proprietary), but more like a timeline from the initial idea to working modules and a description of the problems that were discovered and overcome along the way. Perhaps you could add a development history page to your web site. You've done something really unique and I think a lot of people (well, a lot, meaning a high percentage of people in this tiny community of LED enthusiasts) would be interested to read it. At least your customers and potential customers would be interested, I would think.

It is great to hear that it is possible to still "make stuff" in this day and age where global economics have moved us from a society of makers to a society of consumers. Very inspiring.

Abe,

thanks for the nice statement on the modules. I like your idea to write a summary about the development process. Moverover it´s for sure that I will need a few of your excellent photos soon, so that we can do a trade. Well I can tell you that it makes so much fun to read the comments of customers and that modules are running all over the world so that this is an incentive to improve the product constantly.

By the way there are still a lot of production companies over here which cause this over - dependence on making stuff and exporting. At least for the last 1 1/2 years there has been such an economy boom, mainly because of the production of machinery which other countries need to run their business but also because of the demand for consumer goods such as cars. But even small goods aren´t imported: When I open my drawer the pencil, the rubber, the glue, the mines for my pencil are still made in this country as well as the furniture. However Iam working on an imported PC and I am drinking Coca Cola :). That´s not too bad from my point of view.

Actually I am doing development work (my main job) for three labeling machines for you in the States, so that your bottles will have nice labels on them :)
