I suspect that red stitching is a little more toned down in the hand.....I can kind of see it working, but like matching suit jacket to pants, if you can't match dead on, you should be at least 2 shades off from matching to make it apparent you did not fail at matching. But since the glass is already very dark, you can only go lighter with the accent, and it appears fairly strong - too strong for some tastes. Apparently.
You can really put [almost] any leather band on your P2/Date II, you just need a square band notch-er and you can careful cut out that center piece. The only caveat:other leather bands have the small hole where the tang/catch comes thru the center of the band at the clasp end.
The best notching tool is rather expensive for casual use, but there are one that are more plier-like, that are only for cutting rectangular notches. Also known as a "Gucci plier".
