PULSAR DISPLAY ITEMS.

Post30 Jul 2017, 19:01

I like to collect Pulsar watches. I'm also really interested in collecting Pulsar related items. Display, promotion stuff.
I thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone collects them too.

I wouldn't say I collect them, since I've only got one item :-D .
Here it is:
IMGP0018.JPG

It's a French display stand. Originally it would've had a base like yours, but it has no capacity for watch operation.
In other words I believe it was a static display stand.

It works via a power supply and a back up by battery for when the mains is turned off to keep time. It can work with Date Command or Date II. It shows HR - MIN - SECONDS - MONTH DATE concurrently. It can also be set to just show Hour and Min.

Hello Lloyd, I actually remember seeing the Pulsar flashing watch display at a authorized Pulsar dealer when I was a kid the first time I was looking at Pulsar watches. The salesman showed me a P3 and demonstrated how to set the watch with the magnet in the clasp. The display is one of the coolest Pulsar items to have in my opinion. Nice collection.

Just imagine how many where thrown in the trash when Pulsar went out of business :-( I'm sure there must still be some interesting display items out there.

Don't forget the Pulsar Analyzers...I'm sure most of those got binned when Time Computer folded. No doubt the prevailing thinking was "Well, we don't sell the watches any more, so I guess we don't need this thing any more, either". And the little WWV receivers...so the store could set the watch to a definitively accurate time signal; haven't seen one of those in many years.

Hey Bruce,

Have you a photo about the pulsar analysers?
I don't know what it's look like...

This was for fine-tuning the quartz crystal frequency to as nearly exactly 32.768KHz as possible. The guaranteed timekeeping accuracy was 60sec/year, or + or - 5 seconds a month. With this little gadget, you could make that adjustment in a few seconds. Quartz oscillators are very stable, but not absolutely stable (their frequency can drift gradually over time, even in a zero-temperature-change environment, due to "aging" effects in the crystal itself...the rate of drift diminishes gradually, and eventually can reach near-zero after a few years; this aging only happens when the crystal is actually under power). This is why Time Computer suggested you have the watch re-timed whenever the batteries were changed, to compensate for whatever frequency change had occurred since the watch left the factory (Time Computer allowed only a 1-week "burn-in" period, to weed out early failures, and watches that were drifting at unacceptably high rates).
Pulsar watches that were worn extensively (and, of course, are still working) are probably some of the most stable quartz oscillators on the planet, sensitive only to temperature changes (I have had working watches in my safe, that were off by only 10-12 seconds in a year...that's 0.3ppm accuracy...not bad for a 40-year-old piece of commercial electronics technology).

Some very nice stuff there, I especially like the 'pulsar' desk logo, I think Lloyd must have owned, at one time or another, practically every watch of any significance over his many years of collecting, I think display items are a natural progression........... and yes I'm very jealous ;-) :grin1:

Superb collection :mega:

I know its not LED, but I wanted to join in. I found this a few months ago. I cant plug in because its US but it only backlights the panel.

Its a point of sale stand for a Pulsar Wizard 'Dimension II' Y951

Dating from early 1983

Thanks to Simone for the watch
