It's probably a good thing you didn't bid on that Sunwatch. It's got a black bottom so it's probably a MkIII, not a MkII. I had a MkIII go bad on me a month after buying it. I sent it back to the person I bought it from to be repaired. I think the MkIIIs are the worst for reliability, especially the ones with the exposed wire bonded chips. At least on the MkI/IIs the individual parts can be replaced. Once that chip on the MkIII goes, you're pretty much out of luck.

Yup, got a bag of those as well. All of them are exposed wire bonds. I lucked out and bid on one of Barry's MkI/II parts auctions just minutes after he posted it on Ebay. All parts, I already have 2 cases to fill. Hopefully I'll get some of the boards working.

Oof, on a closer look, I see it is actually a SunWatch, and that means it's a MKIII. I agree, these are miserable. I've a bag of MKIII boards with unusable die attached to them.

Maybe Barry will cough up a dead but decent MKII watch with extra parts on his famous 1day ebay sale spectacular soon

He will sell parts outside of Ebay if you email him. I've bought parts that way from him before. Keep in mind that his Lexan tops are usually for the MkIII/IV, so they need some work to fit the larger MkI/II boards. He'll usually send one red bottom as well. Most of his stuff need alot of work, but I've gotten 4 working from his stash. I don't think he has sliders/magnets though.

Having the cases on hand are the answer.

I agree, those exposed die on the MKIII / IV are a real heartbreaker when you see the green "fumunda" growing on the die and bond wires.

Hopefully I'll be so lucky before his bucket of busted Synchronars is emptied.
