: Introduction, Repair Progress, and Questions

On all the modules I've seen, R2 is 22M (or at least it's supposed to be !). Red, red, blue, silver equals 22M with 10% tolerance.

In fact I don't think it really matters, so long as its high! When measured, they're usually all over the shop.

On a similar matter, does anyone know if there's some method of determining the value of surface mount components ? There's usually nothing written on them. I supsect you're just supposed to "know" what their values are.

Rgds.

Your suspicion is correct.
SM resistors usually have their values printed on them, but I've never ever seen this on a capacitor. The only way to determine its value is to measure it - and to accurately measure it you have to disconnect (=unsolder) it on one side.

Re: Synchronar schematic

Post23 Apr 2012, 20:06

I found the schematic of the circuitry quite interesting, the solar charging part in particular. To be quite honest, I was flabbergasted. Someone, I have long forgotten who, has told me that the Synchronar contained some really clever engineering on the solar power side of the design, to make ends meet energy-wise. Well, since a single diode cannot really be labeled clever solar power engineering, I suppose that person was wrong, or was talking about some later model of the Synchronar. In any case an interesting schematic.
