From my experience this is almost always a display problem. The display shown in your picture is the worst one which has ever been produced from my experience. The problem wasn´t caused by Riehl, these are the 7 segment dies themselves. They have a very bad ground connection, I have dozens of them with the same defects.

I´ve wirebonded a few just to be sure of the die to board connection but could never bring them back into fully working condition.

Moreover you could have a problem with the wirebond on the uP or a short on the uP itself. But this is very unlikely and wouldn´t change anything, right?

What you need is a good display and someone who will do the swap.

Is it a MK-3?
If yes, I could do that work but suggest to use a SASM80 for warranty reasons.
