your opinion: mutilate or worship?

Post04 Apr 2005, 20:11

I am unfortunate enough to have my brand new(*) Synchronar "stuck" at CCC for
guarantee repair. Sooner or later I will either get it back professionally repaired, or
returned in the state I sent it in (or worse yet, not returned at all).

Now I wonder what your opinion is. If I get it back as dysfunctional as I turned it in,
should I

a) try to repair it, thereby risking to molest it beyond every hope,

or

b) save and worship it as a souvenir?

The only repair that is needed, according to its late creator, is that the quartz oscillator
must be replaced. Sounds like a snap, except that one have to dig into lexan and rubber
to get at it.

(*) I had the privilege to use it for just little over a year after it arrived before it
broke down.

or

c) ask someone who is experienced in repairing Synchronars. Replacing the quartz crystal is no big deal once you've "dug into it". People capable of replacing batteries should be able to do this as well. Just dig a little deeper...

I think you should go ahead and fix it yourself, after asking here for help or maybe for the name of someone who will fix it for you.

You'll probably get your watch back in a year or three in good working order, as soon as I get the new watch I paid for a couple years ago.

Considering that CCC is based in the USA, I suppose I must wait for all the layers to
finish swarming around the remains of the company. ;-)
