Top Ten Rarest LED Watches

Post21 Jun 2009, 22:34

Regardless of value what would be the best guess for the top ten rarest LED watches based on the numbers that are currently in existence? I would think that the 18k version of the Pulsar Pulse must be a contender for the number one position as I have read that only 7 or 8 exist, closely followed by the 40 (ish) P1's, what other candidates exist? How rare would the Benrus 'pop up' be?

First, a little correction; no such thing as an 18K PulseTime...all were in 14K. And I am excepting the Grimas, as they were not standard production watches...
For sheer numerical rarity all the Midas Collection watches [with the exception of the Dress model], would be in the top ten [six models], with less than ten known examples. The 18K Men's TC is known by a single specimen. The 18K Executive on 18K bracelet is represented by only 4 specimens [two of which, with consecutive serial numbers, are in my collection]. There may be as few as 8 of the 3140 18K Date/Command in collections.
And that's it for the top 10; with nearly 50 examples known, the P1 doesn't make it [by a wide margin, making it, incredibly, the "commonest" of the rare Pulsars], surpassing even the 18K Calculators [among the variations, a total of 40 or so].
Amazing that watches made in significant quantity just 35 years ago could be so scarce [but I think we have fluctuating gold prices to blame for that...even now, we are in the midst of another "mass melting",,,witness all the "buying scrap jewelry" ads on TV...even the last P1 on eBay narrowly escaped the crucible, except it happened to be working].

Of course, if we venture a bit further afield, there are the recent 14K Synchronars, and the 18K Concord, and, OMG, I almost forgot the 18K Omega TC1 [only 8 or so of those!], but I admit to having a certain collecting bias ;-) ...

In response to the original question(shear rarity on numbers), the Benrus Pop-up might be a hair commoner than the P1(maybe 50-100)out there. Since I don't have a collecting bias, I'd suggest some things like that Modulus driver I use for my avatar(now on it's way to one of our members in the UK - sold!), I haven't seen another, so how many are there? 10, 20? Or those Micrel watches with the Makralon cases I came into were pretty much unknown until the last few months....less than a dozen between the two colors. Or the Omega Constellation style #2(not shapeed like a smaller TC1 or 2) - seems fairly rare, just a few years ago people were arguing whether they were legitimate Omegas. :o The two Mido driver cases(not the common one) seem to be incredibly rare. 3-4 of the one style know, the last one seems to be nothing more than "Ad-ware". Last rare one - Wells Men's watch and even rarer, the Ladies Wells. Many of the rarest pieces are not the highest-dollar collectibles.....just oddities from the start of the digital age. 8-) Just my $ 0.02 :-)

well this is simular to my "all time best led ever wised for" post on dwf. theres no difinative "top ten rarest " imo.examples that spring to mind ;

1 andrew grimas must easliy be within the top ten for sure.
2. nepro xjs,peter wenzig (only current owner of one i know ?)
3. mido driver case 2 or 3 if it ever exsisited or as "retroleds" states
perhaps a artistic advertising license rather than actual cases available ?? ive only seen 2 cases (peter wenzig has both on his site)

theres probably a few obscure models sitting within peoples collections that probably only now exsist in very small numbers.

LETS COMPILIE A LIST OF ;

"ONLY EVER SEEN ONE OF THESES LEDS?"

LOL

and see if its the case excuse the pun..lol

No problem with promoting Peter's site....Peter is a very honest seller, IMO.

The Betone Stratos - I have to change my listing on my site, as one of our members recently provided some dead-on information about that watch. It appears in a book on the history of Tissot, put out by Tissot, and shows all of the Bertone Stratos watches. Not a Buler or a Dugena. I recently sourced an extremely nice vintage Tissot box to make that watch a bit more of a set.

This thread spells it out. You can even read the text in the background, seems to settle the issue, short of someone claiming the book is a fake or some b.s.s. I doubt it is either. Now to find the Lancia car that went with it. :lol:
