Timex LED

Post01 Nov 2010, 02:30

Hi, new here, I have read through all the posts on the Hughes 25mm, and it has not helped! I have a Timex SSQ, and it seems to have more parts than the other pictures I have seen. I Have not gotten anything out of it, but it could be a case of not assembling it correctly. How do the little plastic squares with the gold contacts figure in? I tried logic ( one on the pos side facing down, and the neg side facing up as not to short the battery. There does not seem to be any sign of leaking batteries...any help on how this goes together? http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/3121/ssqv.jpg

The plastic squares with the contacts go inside the battery wells and the batteries fit on top, I would try without using them first as they are not really needed.

The two steel clips are used to provide the spring action for the command and set buttons, they fit between the module and the case, there is a groove on the inside of the button, the centre of the clip fits in to this groove, fit the module and slide the clips into position lining up the groove in the button with the centre of the clip - they are a bit fiddly to fit and you might have to have a couple of goes to get it right.

The rubber band in the case is in the correct place.

The round disc on the case back is for the battery contacts place the case back onto the watch so that the disc is over the top of both the batteries.

Thanks so much, I would never have thought they went in first! I have a couple of LED watches, a Swiss case, American module I got from my Grandfather, a Soviet Electronika B6 03 (and the LCD B6 02) Now I am wishing I had not removed the module! I had bought a NOS Timex SSQ LCD, it didnt work, then I tested the battery, read good, just as I was about to take it apart..I noticed the buttons had one side squared off..I thought "this is strange..why would they do that?"Then it came to me...turn them, and off it fired with apparently an original Timex H cell inside! Thanks for the tip, Ill let you know how I make out

I had bought a NOS Timex SSQ LCD

That watch also uses the clips that fit onto the inner command buttons the same as the LED so if you have to take it apart for any reason you should be able to put it back together again. ;-)

If the SSQ marking is indented on the crystal it can be painted over using a gold or silver leaf pen, when the excess is polished away the new paint will be left in the indents making it look nice and bright once more.

Unfortunately I don't think this will work with this watch as I think they all had painted on logo's.

I would expect a decent craft shop to stock them but if not there are plenty on eBay.
