Post27 Sep 2012, 06:04

Hi.

I was contacted by a producer for the excellent PBS production "American Experience" who is looking for a copy of this 1958 Texas Instruments advertisment:

No idea what publication it came out of? I'd guess Popular Science, Popular Mechanics or some Electronics publication. Cool ad - I'd put that sucker in a frame and hang it in my office.

Ed,

No idea where it came from - you're probably right about one of the mainstream tech magazines. I think I originally snarfed the image that I have from an eBay listing. I sometimes enjoy perusing the vintage ad listings. There's a surprisingly active set of people selling vintage ads on eBay and many of them are very cool. You can find vintage ads for most digital watches from the main brands (and from many of the smaller brands too). Sometimes, they list the original prices, too.

A few interesting examples from today:

1977 Fairchild watch ad:

1977 Pulsar calculator and Pocket Watch ad:

I agree, the selling of ads is extremely lucrative across every genre of collectible. I picked up a like new book of [allegedly] every ad campained General Motors ever ran from like 1950 thru 1980. FUll size One of these days I will start slicing and dicing that prick up. At $15/page.....hmmm, I bet I could convince the missus to trouble herself with that. Tell her it's her Christmas spending money.
