What's different?
Edit: Just read the other thread regarding the new Bulova LED and viewed the photo so I now understand.....

Mick, the new ones are not real led’s. They look fake.

It's a current LED display technology, we can find this style of display in many devices : industrial machines displays, computeur, alarm-clock, home appliance...

That display is different to the new Bulova display..... but anything other than the original display is not going to look good however that is just my opinion - each to their own.

You just can’t duplicate the soft warm glow of an led.

Thanks for posting. Where are these available? I have so many Displays left, it would be easy to just convert them to a real LED. The circuit boards and software are done already.

They may call it an led, but it looks like an lcd that is red, or blue or whatever color they can come up with. It has no depth to the appearance.

It’s flat diplay LCD/LED it’s not a lightbulb as before, it’s different technology.
I took a photo about the same sorte of display on an industrial machine.

They use the same display in the Gerlach Kosmonaut and the cheap copy of vintage LED watch...

The display looks like Bulova took real LEDs. That´s better than those LCDs with LED backlight. Unfortunately it seems they use standard LED chips which light through a mask to get a 7 segment display. Yes, it´s a LED watch, but not what I have in mind. Anyway, it´s great that they start to build a LED watch again and I will definately get one for me.

Maybe someone is interested in an original Bulova LED module. I will definately use my own one just for the overall (better) appearance. :nikolaus: :nikolaus: :nikolaus:

The way I understood that is the segment are actually openings that light shines thru. I’m a little slow on some of this stuff.

You are right - these 2 videos show it more clearly.

In the 1st the LEDs are "unmasked" so appear just as lines.

In the 2nd the LEDs illuminate translucent cutouts in the display to give shape to the objects.

Fundamentally it is the same physics - recombination of electrons and electron holes in a semiconductor to produce light.
