Just a question about an HP 01

Post05 Feb 2007, 19:00

If the only problem is the timing crystal is non functioning and there are no other problems, is this a difficult repair for a forumer.

Cheers, Geoff

HP-01 repair

Shouldn't really be a problem, provided an exact-frequency replacement crystal can be found [but be careful; I'm not sure what frequency they use, but it is NOT 32.768KHz]. If there's a mismatch, the calculator might still work, but the watch will not keep accurate time.

The HP-01 has a 38.400 Khz crystal. You need a donor watch to find this crystal, because it's the only watch that uses this frequency. ( please correct me if i am wrong )
Disassembling is also tricky because you need to take the entire watch apart.
It has a top and bottom case held together with 2 rings if i remember correctly.
Unfortunately i didn't take any photos while disassembling mine...
