The HP 01 dynamic function on video, enjoy

Post01 Apr 2007, 07:09

1 I select the time, of course it is in 24 hour format and local. To change time zones and dates just add the change be it +12 or -5 etc to the existing time and the time and date change automatically. Easy!

2 I have selected the date, changeable from m/d/y to d/m/y as in my case.

3 For ease of demonstration I input a flight time leg of 10:00:00 in hours:minutes:seconds in length to the stop watch.

4 I start the stop watch and it starts a count down for time remaining.
multiply the countdown display of the stop watch by the average fuel flow and I get a running total of fuel remaining in the burn for the length of the leg.

5 I reselect stop watch and see the time remaining.
all other functions including keyboard and calculator or still available.

This would also work as a count up stop watch and when multiplied by a dollar amount, say for long distance you would get a running total of the cost not the time. Once finished store the dollar amount in memory and hit stop watch and see the time also.

Don't know anyother watch that will do that.

Enjoy and click here:

This demonstrates so clearly what HP was all about in that period (not now), and why the HP01 and other HP calculators from then are collectible now. The level of innovation, original thinking, and dedication to qualtiy is unmatched, then or since. HP took a new technology that was available to everyone and did with it what no one else was willing to; they listened to it and let it take them as far as it wanted to go, and then they made it happen and showed the world that destination. If that isn't genius I don't know what is.

I couldn't agree more!

Witness the number of HP67, HP97, HP41C-CX card readers and battery packs I have restored and repaired for various individuals who would be at a loss without them.

My Cockpit calculator, granted I haven't called upon that often in the computerized world of my cockpit is a restored HP 67 with about 20 applications on cards including 5 that the onboard system will not do but must be performed during cold weather operations.

To bad that it is a company of the past and not the present at the innovative handheld end.

Cheers, Geoff

The HP 01 in the video and pictured has now been joined by a spare restored HP 01 and a spare module. Also by the box and papers along with the manual.

I will be taking HI RES scans of the manual page by page so that users can rebuild the manual with the least amount of trouble in the correct size and format.

I will post it at an accessable folder at photobucket and on disk.

It's great that you have a use for the things you collect. It's not always the case but it adds a lot to the enjoyment of a collection imo.

Geoff, are you aware of The Museum of HP Calculators? It's a great site with a very active forum. They also sell a set of DVD's with most HP manuals in PDF format, including the HP01. Not the same as being available to everyone online, but at least it's available (I don't now what the quality is like).

Steve,,

Thanks for the info, the HP museum is great. I bought the first set of CD's about 8 years ago and have already cleaned up and formatted a manual for my HP 01.

My prize calculator is an HP67 still in box with all the original accessories still shrink wrapped. The owner was a University Professor (94 years old now) and still writing articles on evolution. He never used the calculator and it still works with the original card reader and pinch roller. The box is stamped 445.00 USd.

When it comes to the manual for the hp 01 I do have the complete original package enroute to me. It is nice to have a manual that appears and is in the same format as the original, so to that end I will see what my camera and I can do.

Cheers, Geoff

Proud owner of:
1 near new stock HP 01 plus papers, manual, inner and outer box.
1 nearly restored HP 01.
1 beater HP 01 with unrestorable case with working module (spare)

should be set for life, especially since I like using it at work!

Great collection Geoff. I have two HP65's and two '67's, in very good condition, but not mint. I'm happy just to own working ones though. I also have seven HP97's (!), from my flea market and hamfest hunting days. It's a great feeling to see an HP97 on a table, ask 'how much?' and get the reply: "Oh, the adding machine? Five dollars." Then try not to faint when you say 'ok'.
