Talking of La Generale's

Post17 Jan 2008, 01:35

I used to think both La Generale and Gillette exclusively used the auto-command type module. I've had a bunch of Gillette's - all auto, and a La Generale Stopwatch LED wristwatch - also auto-command.

I picked up one of those widescreen La Generale watches recently
( http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/lagenerale4.htm )
and was suprised to find a non auto module within.
It fits to perfect to be a rework; nice DOW stored with the batteries out - she's a runner!

So.... I think there may be 3 varients of this watch.
1) A 2 button version as on the ledwatches photo
2) A single button version non auto (mine)
3) An auto-command version (a Gillette module is nearly a drop fit)

Anyone care to comment? I just love the style of 'La Generale'!

I have one exactly as pictured, appears to be unworn and all original, no auto-command.
It's from the seller that provided the photos (bzmate). A few years ago he sold auite a lot of these. But mine stopped working - crystal problem I suppose.

Interesting.... what's the function of the bottom left button? Mine doesn't have one.

La General made the Gillette watches. Many of the Gillettes did not have the flick feature - those were sold as "Gillette". The one's with the flick feature were sold as "Gillette Reflex". They made a curious array of the modules - stopwatches with command buttons at 1 & 7, with setter at 3., and other stopwatches with commands at 1 & 5, setter at 3.
All have that battery clip with the "Ears" that slip down between the buttons and the module contacts.

Another option for the 7O' Clock button would be for the dual time module they made.

What is signed on the clasp of the NOS La Generale?
My stopwatch clasp was unsigned, and this one has a circular logo with an oscilliscope waveform in the centre. Is that original?

And just to confirm.... nobody's seen a Reflex variant of this?

NEver seen a dual time La Generale, but not to say they didn't make one. A NAtional Semi module probably would fit in the case nicely. :-)

Their logo/symbol is a circle, with a stylized "G" that has an arrow on the leftward end of the horizontal bar. They generally didn't put it on the clasp(just the caseback) from what I remember, so your clasp is probably just fine/original. Look here. http://www.ledwatches.net/logos.htm
An awful lot of companies didn't bother marking the clasp...even Texas Instruments didn't mark all of their's.

There is a dual time zone La Generale photo and discussion here

Today I'm wearing a modded La Generale, now called a 'La General Reflex'.
Was gold, now SS / Chrome.
So I lost out on the DOW function when swapping out the module, but Reflex watches are just soooo cool.
