NOS Compu Chron

Post02 Feb 2012, 20:44

There are at least 2 sellers on Ebay selling NOS Compu Chron watches. The one in the UK seems to have a seemingly endless supply of them!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270903543457? ... 897wt_1002

Does anyone know the story here? Is it like the Atari Console Cartridge where they mistakenly made more cartridges than there were consoles so subsequently there is a stack of them sitting unused in a warehouse somewhere?

Hi Caruso,
You are sort of on the right track here. There were hundreds of compuchron empty cases left over from the manufacturers when Led ended and the new Lcd watches took up the reigns. Trouble is the modules were in shorter supply.Still the smaller dia hughes modules are used a lot .So you can find a new empty cse for a few pounds, buy a beat up used model and fit it into the new case.

That would certainly explain it. I've just bought one of the ones listed above, and it does indeed have the Hughes Aircraft module. Being SS it will make a nice daily wearer.

This is a nice modle Caruso. It's rather light weight compared to many other SS LED watches and it lays low, not bulky at all. A good choice for a daily wearer IMO. 8-)

That particular seller is a long standing collector of LED watches and is known to the forum, he is very trustworthy, honest and approachable, and I am sure if you asked him directly he would be happy to answer your question.

BTW: It's not me ;-)

I saw that Pulsar, and it is very nice. I hope you win Man. Also, it is nice to know that this eBay seller is indeed a open, honest, and approachable salesman.

Hi all,

Just signed into the new forum, btw it looks great, good job Hanno.
Yes its me selling the Compuchrons. The endless supply has gone all but one, ( Which i will probably keep for myself ), mind you it wasn't a endless supply really, probably about 20 in total. I have a stock of Hughes modules, and over the last 6 months or so i bought some nos Compuchron cases on eBay, so i re assembled 36 years later :-D
Its something as a collector i like to do, and as fellow collectors know i just love taking pictures of LED's, and it also helps fund part of the addiction, and buyers get a nice tested working LED at a good price :-D

It arrived today and I'm wearing it now, and am very pleased with it. I'm glad I got the last one, I missed the last few you sold on Ebay as they didn't hang about long. It's a nice slim case, and I didn't have to struggle with any of the links as the clasp adjustment was enough to get the perfect fit.

AS you see, the case back has only a thin lip - you really want to use a simple case press to push it on squarely. OR, unpinn the band to get it out of the way, put face down on flat surface(few sheets of paper will protect the crystal, lay something flat across entire back and push down. I have a few of those for left for sale...$165 plus shipping. :-)

Thanks, that's what I thought so I will give the paper trick a try. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't a special trick to it, and didn't want to break it by applying too much force.

I sell used watches, and jewelry on eBay for a living. I am constantly looking for product to sell, and have been lucky finding great deals (like the P1 that found me because I exclaimed to I guy I collect LED watches).
Its like going on a real treasure hunt every time I stroll though a Antique Mall, Flee Market, Garage Sale, or re-sale atmosphere
Isn't there anyplace where you live that has/sells used junk? :-|

Re: NOS Compu Chron

the problem here is that everybody thinks a watch is made of gold..or they know the price.

And it almost impossible to find something here on a flee market. A friend of mine sells stuff on flee market. The only watches you find there are cheap chinese new watches. Don't forget..the internet penetration in belgium is maybe 99 %, just like the 99% of the homes here has cable television. There is no other country in the world that does better. :-D

So the only way to get lucky is telling a lot of people what your hobby is and maybe someone will say...ooogh yeeah, i still have something like that lying around in my home.

the average price for a pulsar p3 on the bay in europe is between 280 euro..i'm pretty sure you can find it around 150-200 dollars in the states.

correct me if i'm wrong :-D

You' are right Kasper, I had P2 and P3 that I got for less than a 100 USD. I get lucky at the flea market very often
It use to be a lot better a few years ago but at that time I was no very interested on watches untill 11 months ago.
This was my last visit to the flea market. I got this nice NS led watch for 15 dollars, it only needed batteries.

Ebay aside I have never found anything here in the UK, still hoping to one day find a P1 lurking on a stall at a car boot sale or in a charity shop.
