Copper Tone Compu Chron

Post02 Apr 2012, 02:10

Hi! I recently accquired a 'copper tone' Compu Chron LED watch...the band is gold tone but the case appears to be a darker copper tone shade :-? -I don't know if the band is the original band, thinking that it might have had a matching copper tone band as well when it was brand new...I didn't know they made them like that, I just thought they were all silver tone or gold tone...any other information or comments on this are welcome. :-D Thanks...
My life would never be the same without the soft warm glow of happily shining LEDs!

This sounds like a "Gold" plate watch that isn't actually Gold at all, but just something shiny Gold (aka Gilt) in colour that has been exposed to Sulphurous fumes- the actual amount of Sulphur required to turn shiny Gilt dark Copper is tiny, normal City exposure will do it! Longines gilt plate watches seem to be very susceptible to this. Metal polish will restore the finish- you may have to experiment to find an effective one as the gilt plate chemistry does seem to vary enormously.
