Bulova 228 module missing digits

Post05 Jul 2012, 04:53

Hi gang, I got this Bulova Big Block watch recently, and although it works, it's missing a couple of digits, entirely. When you press the button it shows the minutes, but not the hours. Of course, when you continue to hold the button down, the seconds count off okay. Also, if you pull on the button, it displays the numeric day just fine, as well. Is there any hope for this watch? Can anyone repair its' '228' module, and if so, how much would it cost? And by the way, as far as I can tell it keeps perfect time, as far as the minutes. I guess, as long as you didn't need to know the hour, you'd be okay ;-) . Thanks!

The cost of repairing modules with missing digits usually works out at more than it would to simply replace the module. If you have a 29mm Hughes module with a single command button it can be easily modified to work with the Big Block, see here for details viewtopic.php?f=64&t=3287&p=19847&hilit=bulova+convert#p19847

Hi Bucko, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! Unfortunately I don't have a spare single-button Hughes module on hand, at the moment. All I've got is the usual 3-button type (time at 2:00, date at 7:00, setting button at 3:00). But, thanks for the info you directed me to! It was very informative, and I think I may actually be able to do the modification, based on Ed's pictures and info. That is, whenever I run across a single-button module, to give it a try. Anyway, thanks again! ;-)

If you keep an eye out on eBay then one will crop up sooner or later, you need a module that displays all the functions, time, date & month and seconds, by pressing the command button at the 2 o'clock position, if I remember correctly some of the two command button modules also display the time, date & month and seconds from the command button at 2 o'clock position, on these modules the date and month is also displayed by pressing the command button at 7 o'clock position.

The conversion is easy enough, even I managed it OK ;-)
