How rare is this?

Post14 Aug 2012, 18:48

Hoyt.jpg

Sure, the case is pedestrian. The movement is unmarked, but from the construction I'd hazard a guess that it was an Exonix module. Totally factory made, display is mounted exactly like some of the "Let's f@ck" modules.
Who the heck was Hoyt, that he merited this obviously expensive and terribly rare movement? I can think of no other item that was internally one-offed by the factory, for anyone. Time, date, day-of week. Works flawlessly. I want to sell it, but what to ask?

I'm thinking $1000  ...... I would be most motivated by an offer. I'd love to sell to you Mick, as I know you have a great collection of message watches. And I know you don't sell off y(our) prized pups on an emotional whim. You have dibs on it...you know, write me.

Possibly made for the 30th anniversary of Hoyt Archery? Say the watch was made in 1978 then minus 30 would be 1948 would was when many pre-war businesses resumed as soldiers were demobbed (Hoyt started in 1935ish but the wr got in the way!).

Ol' Tom - your guess is as good as any, but I have never seen or heard of an LED with such a personalized message. I search against these companies based on the factor in the parentheses: Quantum(button layout), Croton(button layout), Mercury(case) and Exonix(movement, maybe).
I shoot crossbow but not recurves or compounds anymore(due to shoulder injury), which are what Hoyt makes.

Thanks Ed, email sent :-D
I would be more inclined towards the watch being produced for a retiring employee of this New Hampshire electrical instruments company http://www.hoytmeter.com/about_us.aspx

Well, I have contacted several companies and not a peep back. I was thinking maybe it was for Siebke & Hoyt Jewelers, since Joseph Hoyt,CEO retired in 1976 after exactly 30 years of service.

Whoo-Hoo - got an answer back today! Joseph Hoyt's son Jay wrote me personally It was made for Siebke & Hoyt Jewelers, as an anniversary item for Joseph's 30 years of running the company but they sold them to the public. $800 back then. . Apparently they got the first dozen, then there was a glitch, never got anymore. He had no information on who made it but said it was the most requested item they have every carried.

Regarding the Hoyt Archery theory - heard back from them too. Hoyt name was sold in 1980, they have no records. And the Hoyt family has no affiliation with the current company whatsoever.

Well, it's still for sale....maybe I was asking too much at $800. Just hard to measure really rare against items made by the hundreds or thousands. Albeit, it is really only an enjoyable message due to it's rarity...not much of a conversation starter like the Let's F@ck watches. 30 YRS HOYT will never get you laid.
