Cool piece!
For some reason the very same watch was sold as GP also with a Frontier dot display module.

Absolutely correct - ten out of ten for spotting the module.

GP as in Girard Perregaux?

I know that 'FunkyGuy' had a very similar one that was stamped GP but with the command button at the 3 o'clock position?

yep, Girard Perregaux....although they made their inhouse drivers watch for some reason they also opted to go for the cheap generic modules and even used the very same cases used with other low-end brands.
both GP's from the link above I once had but branded as Helbros.
the only difference with the rectangular one is the position of the button.

only says USA on the backplate..nothing more
