Need help on Quasar (Saturn,Armitron) module

Post03 May 2014, 12:35

Hello DWF members,
This a my first post :) I am French so please excuse my bad English.
I am working on a Quasar module, the same one as the saturn and armitron watch (http://www.crazywatches.pl/saturn-time- ... n-led-1973).
The oscillator does not work :( I get erratic single digit 1, 4, 0...the quartz crystal is ok (test on oscilloscope + wave generator). The trimmer was corroded by batterie leaks and seems to be dead. I tried to replace it with a 0-30pf trimmer but with no success.
Does someone know the trimmer value for these modules ?
Thanks a lot
Chris

PS : I just saw I posted my question in the wrong topic :( sorry for that..can a moderator move it to the "reparation electronical" section ? Can I do this on my own ?

Excellent modules these very resilient to damage....do you have any other dead watches with a good trimmer that you can change over.

Is the display rapidly cycling the numbers or just displaying a single digit.

Hello Led-Time,
Thank you for you reply.
Unfortunately I do not have another similar module to switch the trimmer or mesure its value :( If someone has a similar module and could mesure the capacitance value that would be cool :)
I tried different modern trimmers (0-12pf, 5-20pf,0-30pf) with no success...
It only displays one digit, no multiplexing since no oscillation.

I can only suggest you look on eBay for a job lot of untested LED watches and transplant a trimmer from one of them to try it out.

If I remember correctly these modules can take a bit of time to come back from the dead but once up and running they are superb...trimmed up they keep good time.

Thank you for your back up :) i ordered vintage trimmers on Ebay, I will keep the place informed :)
I am not giving up, the module itself seems to be very well protected in its resin, there is no reason it would refuse to work. :) and the watch is mint, with box !:) it helps to keep on :)

Hi Mick,

How is it going...I'am starting to get a more interested in watches again but I'am afraid to take the back off some of them as they have been lying about for a while, my SASM module Pulsars that haven't faired too well the displays have all missing segments on them I'll have to get around to speak with Hanno to see if they can be repaired.

Have you been buying anything interesting and unusual...?

Glad to see that you have been tempted back to the LED world. ;-)

Sorry for the late response, I somehow missed your reply.

I have probably added quite a few since we last spoke but not so much of late due to a combination of the threat of impending redundancies at work and the one's I now want to add not being so readily available.
