unusual stamp mark + Westclox quartzmatic DSM

Post13 Nov 2014, 21:25

I just bought an LED I thought might be silver as it had a 925 mark on the back I didnt know whether I could get it working but I thought it was worth a punt as I hadnt seen a silver LEd before. When it arrived I dont think its even silver, but I like the case design so it doesnt matter. Although I might need to get the help of a certain friendly moderator as it needs a slither of crystal. It has a very small mark on the side of the case. Does anybody recognize it. Is it the makers stamp?

thanks

Adam

Its not that model. Mine is a gold colour with the grater effect on the top a bit like the bulova sideviews. Mine has no crystal, nor is it working at the moment. I think the caseback might be silver with a gold plate.

Suppose that would fit in with the S 'P' G stamp, is that what you were thinking?

Id prefer 'pure solid gold' it has a better ring:).

Here's a photo of it full frontal minus a glass and non working:(

Oh Wow! you have a working dynamic scattering display LCD 'Quartzmatic' I think that one is very rare and special - so rare even Peter Doensen didn't know it was upside down when he photographed it for his book 'The History Of The Modern Watch'.. ... ... http://doensen.home.xs4all.nl/l1.html at the bottom of the page is a link for the photo's.

The Richards-Zeger LED must also be very rare - not seen one of those either!

Two nice watches photographed together. :-D

You could try sending the photo of the hallmark to David Boettcher from this site http://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/casemarks.html#french underneath the links to the various hallmarks he states "please feel free to email me. If you want help with the marks in your watch" might be worth giving it a go.

Wow, any chance of a short video clip of the awesome DSM "Quartzmatic"? That's a rare watch indeed, I wonder how many working ones are even left in the world. Apparently the display is Optel but the module is not (or isn't an Optel module that's seen on any other watch)?

Thank you very much for sharing the video. That is truly a stunning example of a cutting edge DSM design. Also, thanks for the photo of the back/module which shows how the inside is also something to marvel at with its hand made electronic craftsmanship!

No problem I think its important all the information is out there, not hidden away in a collection.

The quartzmatic works well and keeps good time but gradually doesnt have enough power to power all the digits continuously I think maybe the connection beneath the plastic battery holder needs resoldering.

Mick I have emailed the guy about the marks hopefully he'll get back. There's a few other forums I can try if not.

The Westclox is a cracker, and very desireable.

I like the way you snuck it into the thread !
Congratulations :Prost:

Pretty sure this box is exactly the same box the DSM would have come in, worth buying just for the box?

Thanks Richard. That really is appreciated. At the moment it sits in and Trafalgar box looking not very important, especially next to the Jules Jurgensen box

Did you see that damage to the case? I think it may just be a nice leather strap.

Oh yeah, I was on the iPad at the time and didn't really look at the pictures, I'd look at the others he had for sale but then noticed that one was much cheaper so just posted it for the box, now I've looked properly it does look a bit green lol, fingers crossed for a working module bonus anyway.

Kasper is that a solid piece of crystal or acrylic? Its massive.

Mick the guy got back about the mark but didnt know. I have now tried Richards Zeiger although they are probaby owned by some company in China now.

Probably 'Solid Gold Plate' although the '0,925' threw me.
