Post27 Jun 2015, 00:09

I've got my doubts about the COA  :grin1: Guide price £7000 - £10,000   Looks like Elvis may have worn it when he was collecting Polk Salad, plenty of authentic scratches. Return to Sender i would

M:)W:)M

He should have had an engraving done on the back, like this Pulsar. It may have pushed it into the +$5000 range.

Has anybody else noticed that this is NOT an Omega, but a Hamilton??? In any event, with no other personalization, and no mention of a serial number, I think you've got nothing here (maybe $350-400, as a Kojak watch, if working).

You nailed it Bruce.

The band and case has the halfway groove of a Hamilton. Not an Omega at all!

Bruce Wegmann said "Has anybody else noticed that this is NOT an Omega, but a Hamilton??? "
Thats why my Omega in the title is in inverted commas and my quip about the COA. But all becomes clear when you read the auction description, its a Hamilton (Omega) lol
Must be made by the same people that made my first car Austin (Lamborghini) Allegro.
Cant see The King ever wearing a plated watch anyway, he was Mr Bling and money was of no concern. I love the "great provenance" statement at the end
Auction description -
" ELVIS PRESLEY - gold plated Hamilton (Omega) digital watch as owned and worn by Elvis Presley and part of the "Elvis Presley Museum" collection sold by Butterfield & Butterfield in 1994. This watch Elvis gave the watch to his Uncle Earl Pritchett around 1972 and it was later passed to Jimmy Velvet where it was displayed in his museum. When sold at auction the watch was purchased by "The Daily Mirror" who offered it as a competition prize on the 9th August 1994 - it was won by a family member of the current vendor. The watch is stamped on the reverse Hamilton Watch Co. with the serial number 999573 - 14K Gold electroplated bezel - stainless steel back (P971034). An incredible Elvis piece of clothing/jewellery with great provenance."

UPDATE-
I expressed my concerns regarding the COA and this watch to the auction house. As Bruce correctly stated, there isn't anything there to directly link the watch to that paperwork. Suprisingly, the auction house replied -

"Dear Gary,

We are currently talking with Hamilton about the history of this watch which should hopefully clarify.

We have paperwork that clearly show this as the Daily Mirror competition watch and also as a lot in the Butterfields catalogue. However if Hamilton come back with information contrary to what we believe then we will not be including the watch in the forthcoming sale.

Best regards

Anybody who can't tell an Omega from a Hamilton has no business issuing COAs for anything. It will be interesting to see what their investigation produces.

Neat P1, thanks for sharing this beauty!

It seems, Jimmy Velvet signs everything. Maybe I should visit him with a contract for a new LV-Casino, the Hannopalace

I think I would sooner have the Allegro than that POS watch - even the none Lamborghini or 'Vandem Plas' models would be better than that garbage! ;-)

:grin1:

I picked that particular photo as the colour is the same as the Morris Marina we had and I remember as a 5 year old kid way back in 1972... ... that particular shade of beige was all the rage back then!

Quartic steering wheel, very cool 8-) .. ...

I remember the Allegros, Marinas and the Minis all suffered the same fault, crappy balljoints. It was quite common to see these models at the side of the road with a front wheel hanging off. Ah the 70s :mega:
One of the many sites we work on is a Civic Amenity site (a tip) We often take appliances dumped by the public- washing machines, tumble dryers, Dyson vacuum cleaners etc, fix them then give them away to youngsters starting out , unemployed, single parents etc. What i've learnt, over the years, from this Robin Hood act is, if you want the best appliance, buy a German one. Same applies to cars

The Elvis saga continues with the auction house posting the original page from the Daily Mirror competition back in 1994. Strangely enough, the paper also refers to the Hamilton as an " Omega digital"
The newspaper has printed as pic of very 60s looking Elvis wearing a watch, though its obviously not that one and then a close up pic of the Hamilton on somebodys wrist.
Anyway, the auction is today (22/9) i will update
Outcome- The watch didnt sell. Looks like potential buyers treated the provenance with "Suspicion"

I am surprised none mentioned the other (LED) watches of Elvis. He must have been a big collector and given away watches to pretty much everyone from fans to housekeepers over lawyers. I remember there was a nice (but worthless) Pulsar years ago with "EAP" engraved in the back, of course it was a watch Elvis gifted to his butcher or whomever just because he loved gifting LED watches to random people. I am surprised the "Omega" (Big laugh) has no "EAP" (Elvis Aaron presley) engraved on the back here... Maybe he gifted so many watches it wasn't practical to have all of them engraved. If i remember right there was also at least one P1 from him (hell yeah, he had EVERY LED watch ever made, right?).

Going off memory, i think there was a P1 gifted to him from Col Parker. As far as i'm aware that resides in the Elvis Museum. (no doubt someone will correct if wrong) The nearest i've come is a chicken wing from Col Sanders :~#

Wow just realised I won the cuff links that were tomorrows prize.
Hang on I'll take a shot of them.

I just threw them at the back of the sock draw, as it was obvious they never
belonged to Elvis. They included salad. M:)W:)M
