Record Starting Bid

Post29 Dec 2006, 01:03

Check out the Birks LED watch on Ebay. It is item 290066339723. The biding starts at $90,000. I've not ever seen a higher opening bid. Does anyone ever recall seeing a higher one?

Yup. It's probably 10 microns 14k gold filled. It's actually a Rotary - I've got one exactly the same, N.O.S, box papers etc - but mines only worth about 150 dollars tops because I'm not the author of "The Devils Magnet"

You'd think that for the purpose of the water watch ad that he would have at least dipped it in champagne.

Please excuse the language, but No F*$?&ng way man!!! These watches were made and sold in their millions (ref: Doensen book - Miscellanea, page 213 & 4). If it sells then Donald Trump needs to look no further for his next 'Aprentice', as this seller would be the dogs b......s :D

On a positive note, I guess we should all be thankfull that for ever seller who doesn't know what they have, and vastly over price their watch, there is a seller who doesn't know what they have, and underprice it. Sometimes with a very nice 'buy it now' price :) C'est la vie

Lets not forget the sellers who know what they have but pretend it is something else. The same seller was offering a Synchronar a week or two ago on the notion that there are battery replacement instructions on the web.A copycat trend started by someone else that refused the info I tried to give.

These instructions were written by Phil who never realized when he wrote it that there is a major difference in opening a MKI and II versus the black bottom MK III, and MK IV.Also the info is incorrect in the sense that he claimed the potting gel was only around the battery area and served no purpose elsewhere, claiming the circuit board is bonded to the plastic inside.WRONG!! The module is completly void of any air inside till you crack it open, unless you count the small amount trapped inside the reed switch and under the chip lid and perhaps inside the Q.C can.

Anyone heard from Phil? or the guy dipping his hands in the cookie jar that used to work for my father?

Please disregard my question concerning people that I wish no bad intent to.They will contact me when they are ready or feel it is necessary.I don't expect anyone here to get dragged into this. If you have contact with one of these individuals just tell them I wish them well in the new year.

On the subject of high starting bids I could not help thinking about the Black so called NOS Synchronar sold in 2004 with an aproximate buy it now of $3,350.

Howard is quite right - the difference between opening one of the red bottomed early Synchronar modules and one of the black bottomed ones is incredible. The "slip a knife around the edge" suggestion would have no affect whatsoever on one of the blacks - there is a nice solid chunk at each corner and the top and bottom are fused together MUCH better. After open 25+ Synchronars, I would agree that they are quite full of the gel.

:!: I told the guy with the million dollar water watch that it was nothing special the first day of the auction.

We are Soooo far off track with this thread - but it's nice to see some passion for a change!!! :P

At a starting bid of $90,000 it seems that he could at least throw in postage.
