JAEGER LECOULTRE LED WATCH

Post25 Apr 2007, 20:15

Hello guys,
I am new to this site. I have recently been given the above watch and would like to find out a little bit more about it. If there is anyone out there who could help that would be great? I seem to have spent many hours trawling the net only to find two photos and no info. My eyes taken a serious beating! The watch is gold in colour and so is the braclet not sure if gold? It is in working order and really good condition. Please someone tell me about my watch!!!!!!!

Yes, pictures would be helpful in order to definitively identify it. If it's the one I think it is, I used to own one (just sold it).

The one I had used a an early Hughes module, with the individual segments of the numbers made up of tiny, discrete dots, which most people find more attractive than the solid-line segments on most LED watches.

Most people consider Hughes modules to be very reliable. They are also probably the most common module out there, but that shouldn't detract from the value of your watch; there's more value in the name than which module it uses.

the JLC led watch is identical to a Wittnauer Polara model and differs only with the logo on the crystal and the clasp.

it's the same quality and made by the same suppliers.
the Polara sells usually for 100-150$ whereas the JLC for 300$.
so does it make sense to spend 200$ extra for an identical watch?

You are right about the value difference, I think the value is a splash over from the mechanical watch world. JLC has always been a top end producer while Wittnauer has never made their own movements inhouse.

Having said that, I would ascess the difference due to the lack of knowledge on the buyers side not realizing like you and others that the movements and cases are rebranded ebauches.

well, I guess JLC just wanted to fill in the gap in their wide assortment of watches offered to the customer in the 70's and this idea by rebranding a mass produced watch was their "best" decision :?
from the topshelf producer it seems that only GP was proud enough to have their own module made fully inhouse. not even Omega did. I'm not sure about Breitling?

Bretling at least made the case themselves, but the drawback is that they used that crappy frontier module which imo counts to the least reliable ones.

if you want to name a luxury brand watchmaker that made a good LED watch then I'd name Heuer Chronosplit - its using a cool stylish heuer case as well as a special Heuer module combining LED and LCD display tech.

luixury mechanical watchmakers always had problems about inventing own tech. I remember the Ulysee Nardin i once had, was one of the most expensive and most disappointing LCD watches i ever owned. Good they did stick to mechanical watches after these poor experiments.
