Interesting. A bit bizarre, but fascinating nonetheless.
Kind of reminds me of early Ford automatic transmission fluid called "Type A Suffix A" that used sperm whale oil as a friction modifier. It was done away with because it was too costly to produce in large quantities, and synthetic friction modifiers came to be shortly thereafter, which broght about Ford's Type F and General Motors Dexron type ATFs.
It really makes me wonder how they thought of using sperm whale oil in the first place.
