Do Compu Chron watches have a light sensor?

Post29 Nov 2007, 00:40

The one specifically that I have is the one in question. I know lots of the high-end LEDs like Pulsar, Birks, Omega, etc. do, but was wondering if this one does. Mine is the 25mm module and is #16 in the list of photos on the main page.

One thing I have noticed...When it goes into the continuous seconds mode, the display dims about half of what it is when just displaying the time or date momentarily. I'm guessing to save power since the display is on for more than a few seconds? Just discovered this, and thought it was a cool feature.

Hughes Aircraft modules never had a light sensor. Some will dim, when in seconds and time setting mode, to save the batteries. This will account for most of the CC watches. The last production CC watches had Sanyo modules, which had light sensors. Yours has the Hughes.

Many 'low end' watches/modules had light sensors too.

The GP has the same feature. The seconds display does not turn off automatically and is dimmed to save power - good idea.

My Texas Instruments model 401 has a light sensor - it's probably considered 'low end' but I like it. FordGuy; you should be able to buy one at about the same price range as your CompuChron, but it looks entirely different. Round and spacey as opposed to angular and spacey. 8-)

I only have one other TI, the 402 model - no light sensor there. I don't know if any other TI's came with a light sensor?

I really like the way my Compu Chron looks, and I do get comments on it's unique (well, now...Not in '76) style. I'm surprised at how many people have never seen an old LED digital watch before!
