Chronosonic meets CompuChron

I've had my Chronosonic 100 for all of two months now, but I felt I had to get a Compu Chron to see what the differences and similarities are. (Yeah - right! I saw a great deal and snagged it.)

For those interested here are a few pics of the two side by side;



Both have the same fucntions but the Compu Chron manages them all with one command button where as the Chronosonic has the time and seconds on at the 2 o'clock command button and date at the 8 o'clock button. Also the Compu Chron can display the seconds on going, where as with the Chronosonic the button needs to be held down for the seconds to display.

I now know that they are both made by the same company, which explains the same logo - only the Chronosonic has it on it's side.




Both are in virtually mint condition - the Compu Chron even has the date of manufacture sticker still on the module. (A first for my collection.) And a module so clean an pristine I could eat off it! What can I say, I'm one happy LED lover, uh LEDLuvr!

LedLuvr - real difference is your CompuChron has the Hughes 25mm module and the Chronosonic has the 29mm. If you get the CompuChron with the 29mm module, the functions will be the same as the Chronosonic. The two button, one setter 29mm comes in a number of different function patterns. For example, it would accomdate the Hughes message module "bucko" has been having fun with.

I always liked the idea of a message watch. I'll have to hunt one down one of these days.....

the smaller hughes module has been known to be a bit fragile compared to the larger module,although i also have this smaller module hughes in the same watch and its been fine.
you may also find compuchron labled watches using sanyo modules,which have a different setting style.identified with two setting buttons.very reliable.they will also have "case and module made in japan" on the case back as opposed to "case made in japan" on the hughes versions.they are all nice quality watches, all s/s and glass crystals.i also have the sanyo module version

Thanks for the info holly35. So you think the module 'bit fragile'? Hopefully I won't have any problems. Other than that it's very well made as you said - SS and glass crystals. Gotta love it!

It's the damn quartz oscillator - it's not mounted on the board directly bur rather it is mounted into the plastic chassis(battery holder), and they used the finest little hairs of wires(or on some models some odd little micro-clips) to bridge from the quartz to the circuit board. A few of us(Majestyk and I have discussed this) have came up ways of rebuilding those connections....after that they seem to be as hardy as the larger ones.

Thanks Ed, it's good to know that if this particular module takes a dump for that reason you can always repair it.
(Or have it repaired to be more accurate...)

That Compu Chron is nearly identical to mine. I even looked at that one on eBay, but since I already have one, the only way I'd get another one is if there was a super mint case/band with a dead 25mm module. Mine is a "daily driver" and is getting a few nicks and scratches. It'd be nice to have a nicer "body" to put my good "engine" into.
