Help with a Hamilton LED...

Hello again,

I just received a Hamilton LED, which is after 5 minutes or operation, suddenly the digit "9" is remains constantly on, at the very right side of the display.

Nothing is happening, not even when I pressing command or / and reset switch.

This watch is a GF Hamilton LED with 2 buttons, one "command" and one "reset"

Any suggestion?

I hate those modules. I hate them so very, very much. Why Hamilton went from Time Computer modules (their own division I might add) to Frontier, is beyond me. I guess they had to "dumb down" their 2nd gen watches to make Pulsar's sell better.

Anyway, the quartz crystal is LIKELY the problem and needs replacing, but with Frontiers, there can be other problems, some of which can't be fixed (which is mostly the case) and some very simple like the batteries getting poor contact or the battery contacts on the module needing to be cleaned. I wouldn't suggest the later for most modules since it's getting power and probably doesn't need to be cleaned, but Frontiers are Frontiers. Did I mention I hate them?

well, Frontiers are Frontiers. then you must also hate most Omegas, Jeff
the quartz is mostly the problem as you mention. the rest lies beneath the silicone covered chips which will not be repairable. I managed once by adding pressure to those chips by putting a piece of thin rubber between the chips and the plastic cover. works for 6 months now :)

I don't hate any of those watches. Just Frontier modules. With that said, I'll probably end up selling a watch with one, soon. haha. Although I test them for a long period of time. The problem with most watch sellers on Ebay, is they slap the batteries in and put the watch up right away. That's ok for some watches, but not all.

For the Hamilton's and Omega's I recommend the first generation ones, although the Pulsar modules can be problematic as well but much easier to repair.

its a mine field buying these watches,it just goes to show ,just because it has the quality omega or hamilton name,there are no guaranteesof its reliability.
some cheaper watches ,in my opinion can be far better in this department.

well I guess I'm still learning. The amount I've learned about which module is which over the past month astonishes me. When I got my first LED aged 11, it was just an amazing watch that lit up. Now I'm turning into a right old geek.

I'm sure the watch I gave example of is in good order being that it has already given 30+ years of good service. Having said that, I value the advice I read here and now know a but more about which modules are more reliable and maybe more servicable should anything go wrong.

Touch wood I ain't gone wrong yet. :)

I will find a Hamilton and it will have a Pulsar module in it. I shall bide my time.
