25mm Hughes module with dot segment display

Post21 Sep 2008, 23:50

Recently I won a watch on Ebay with what I thought was a 29mm Hughes module inside (the model set-up to work with one command button) but to my surprise it had a 25mm Hughes module fitted except this one has a dot segment display its bright like the early 29mm modules it has a colon when showing the time and the line or should I say row of dots between the month and date...???

Is this a rarity or are they as common as every other Hughes module, I apologise if they are I've never seen one before that’s all...

Klippie - what color is the plastic battery portion of the module? Just curious, as they aren't generally switched off of a piece, due to the fairly tight connection with the quartz oscillator.

I've not even opened it up yet Ed, if I've time tommorow I'll have a look and post a picture.

Funny you mention the colour have you noticed the Hughes 25mm's fitted to Timex watches are clear coloured plastic not solid and have little dimple strip on the outside of the module that locates in the Timex case, these don't fit in other cases unless its removed.

It would be quite interesting to have a sticky showing pictures of all the various 29mm and 25mm Hughes modules working of course, there must be loads of them...

It is a Hughes 25mm module... ~:(

Nothing special by the looks of it, its got the usual Hughes setting arrangement for AM/PM too.

Has anyone else got a watch with one of these modules inside surely Hughes must have made loads of these modules there must be more out there somehwere...

I love the intensity of those LED's! Good catch Klippie.
I have a few Hughes module watches... and I know this is going to
sound dumb.. but is there a way to tell what mm size the moudule is
from the outside of the watch? Only by looking at it lit up or inside I'm guessing.

25mm = larger digits than the 29mm module :?:

As far as I know the digit sizes are the same for 25mm and 29mm modules but there are big digit versions of both 25mm and 29mm,
I think they are mostly found in more expensive watches like Wittnauer, Longines etc.

Have a dig around using the search there's a thread somewhere all about the various Hughes modules.

There is - with Hughes modules a 25mm always has the setter at the 7-8 oclock position. All 29mm Hughes have the setter at 3 oclock, with the exception of the special module in the Bulova Big Blocks. The Big Block has the setter at 7, with command contacts at 1 oclock(date) and 3 clock(time)....a clever little piece of metal lets all the functions initiate from the 3 oclock position. 8-) A good question ;-)

Good to know - Thanks Ed!

Thanks for the suggestion Klippie -I remember that "Hughes" thread from a while back and found it very infomative but haven't looked at it lately.
