Anyone ever see one of these LEDs with unusual "Date&qu

Post28 Sep 2009, 16:26

Got this disco special yesterday. Unsigned but movement is marked "uranus".
Not working now, but it did work for a little while, the date function
displays a sentence including a four letter word instead of the calendar date. Caseback says made in USA. Anyone know anything on it?

Ah- another message watch. Always with the same message it seems...

I can see it now, back in the heady days of the late 1970's, a loud and crowded discotec with spirtited lyrics of "Staying Alive" filling the air. A young lad coaxes a bodacious beauty to 'press this button' and the message displays. What I always wondered is: what was her response? Did it work? Was it that easy?!

These were sold mail order from Men's Mags?

Someone informed me that these watches were sold mail order back in the day from men's magazines like Playboy & Penthouse. Sound plausible to me. Where else would you get them? Certainly not at your typical conservative department store....

No, it wasnt that easy, you also needed ladies night where they were quite drunk, and some 'ludes and a joint didnt hurt, by the time you flashed 'em with this watch, they were already gone and this just put you over the top as they say....

Sadly I missed out. :-( I could have trotted into that discotec wearing my best pair of 'toughskins' corduroy flair pants, open shirt with medallion and with my very cool Star Wars T.I. LED watch ... but I'm sure they wouldn't have let my 10 yr. old arse in the door. :-? :-D
