Ross or Hamilton Vantage?

Post20 Nov 2009, 22:22

Is the watch photographed a Hamilton Vantage? It's stamped 'Ross' on the back case and 'Liggett Group' on the crystal - 'google' tells me that the 'Liggett Group' was\are a tobacco company. The case and band look very similar to the photo of the Hamilton Vantage on Ed's site and both appear to use the same Frontier module. Could it be that Ross is correct and the watch was supplied to both companies?

Mick, you are close. Ross was a large case manufacturer, making cases for probably hundreds of different brands and models, both mechanical and digital. Vantage was Hamilton's "B"(second) line...there was an American brand of cigarette of the same name introduced around the same time. Hmmm?

The Liggett Group - yes, a large tobacco company. I had one of those pieces with a little more of the history on the paperwork...they were pieces marked with their name, for employees and salespeople to buy & wear. And yes, Frontier inside, since they are essentially a Hamilton in all but name.
