How Many Different Pre-Programmed Messages Are There?

Post24 Jan 2010, 18:48

Just wondering how many different pre-programmed messages there are on 1970s LED's watches?

I have four -

1.USA 200 YEARS 1976
2.YOUR PLACE OR MINE
3.LETS F**K
4.I LOVE YOU........LETS F**K

Plus I have seen a photo of a Hughes displaying 'GOOD LUCK'

http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/hughes2.htm

How many more?

Bad Man Mr Frequent :: M:)W:)M

How do you get the modules to display the "easter egg" messages?

Some of the modules produced where created with a pre-programmed messages, I believe Hughes and Uranus where the first......correct?

Hughes also made a module which could be programmed with a message of the owners choice, limited to 5 words of 5 letters, mine say 'Mick Loves His Retro Watch' & Bite My Shiny Metal Arse'..... I'm sad I know LOL

Also found reference in an old post to another different message that was available.......... "Have a happy day"

I recently purchased this WITHDRAWN Library book off the "known-auction-site" and was surprised that it had some info about the Hughes Programmable Modules.
This is a great book with lots of pictures (includes Pulsars, and Synchronar).
I've seen this book available for approx. $20.-$25. shipped on "known-auction-site", and its usually posted without the key word "LED" in auction title.
Enjoy the pics!

Great photo's, must of been quite a labour intensive procedure to program the modules back in the early days!

'Grad Class of 1976' to add to the list!

Thanks for the posts Benrus - can I add these pictures to the gallery for posterity?

I was intrigued by the special typing console for programming in the "hard-coded" messages - just imagine some of the funny typoes that must have been made or special one of a kinds. As Mick will certainly agree, programming a user-programmable one is a real pain in his "shiny metal arse". :x The suggestion of an infra-red programmable one is pretty cool. Sort of like the universal remotes where you shine the beam from your original remote at the new universal which "learns" the old one's lingo.

"Buns of steel", eh Mick? !@@!

 For now, maybe time for a change soon.

Anymore to add to the list Ed?

What was the limiting factor for the length of the message?

No, not at all Mick. Have you added any to your collection, on top of the original four?

I have managed to find, "Grad Class Of 1976", "Ford For Pres 1976" and "Easy Does It", all are Hughes 25mm single command modules and display the message on the third press.
The search continues for more.

Pre-set message module watches.

'Ford For pres'

I was thinking about the chronological order for these message watches, I think it must be something like this, starting with the earliest first -

1.
'I Love You' ;-)
http://www.dwf.nu/Gallery/displayimage. ... 998&pos=53

2.
'Your Place Or Mine' :-D
http://www.dwf.nu/Gallery/displayimage. ... 0998&pos=4

3.
'Lets F**k' :-P
http://www.dwf.nu/Gallery/displayimage. ... 998&pos=24

4.
No 1 Dad ~:(
http://www.dwf.nu/Gallery/displayimage. ... at=0&pos=0

Not sure where to slot the rest in.

That would seem to be the logical progression. :-)
I wonder if there is a "Number 1 dad - again" or a "single again -your place or mine?" message watch out there?

I also spotted an LED watch on eBay that displayed 'Porche' across the bottom, it was sold privately for $500 before I had the chance to bid
Anyone else see it?
