Herma Solar & Uranus Calculator

Post10 Dec 2010, 14:45

Did anyone spot these two on the bay?

Herma Solar item number 160515516255

Uranus Calculator item number 150526242563

I have the Herma with a Alfatronic stamp on the crystal, I have also seen the one's with the Nepro stamp......I wonder how many more there are? I'd never even heard of 'Herma' before spotting the listing.

Anyone here lucky enough to win either of them?

Not me :-(
I saw the Uranus, put didn't catch the Herma. I've never heard of Herma either. I do like those Nepro/Alfatronic solar watches. Another one I gotta get one of these days.

By the way, I saw a nice Uranus watch in a job lot, which appeared to be a message watch. Interestingly, the crystal appeared quite orange:

I won the Herma Solar. I just hit the buy now as soon as i spotted it. In my 13 years of collecting I've never seen one for sale, so i guess it was a good buy ? I always loved this Nepro model since i bought the Peter doensen book. I will report back when it arrives.

Wow, love that Herma Solar watch. Nice score.

Please take a few glamour shots of it and work with Ed to get it posted to ledwatches.n e t to document for the ages....it is likely we will never see another Herma like this again (especially in this superb shape).

Here are a few of shots of the HERMA SOLAR.

It looks great and works fine too. The only problem is, it looks like some one has brushed the face and also brushed the bottom half of the crystal ? it only shows in certain light.
The display has a nice deep effect where the module lays flat even though the case is a wedge shape.

I never knew i had to pay import duty from Switzerland £50..ouch !!!

Nice photo's :-D

How do you rate the viewing angle - it's quite limited on mine.

BTW: With the manufacturer being Herma could this be the 'phrodite' model by any chance?

Basically correct, only that Switzerland IS European, but not member of the EU. I live 20km from the Swiss border, and theoretically you have to declare ANYTHING you take over the border - even if you take it back 5h later, you need to fill in a form called "Carnet". If you don't and get caught, at least you'll have a long discussion with the Swiss customs officer.
We once designed an electronic device for a Swiss company and had some trouble when we just took it over the border to present the prototype to our customer. On the way back for some reason we were asked to open the trunk/boot - and in there in a little box was an electronic device about the size of a pack of cigarettes - our prototype.
"How much is this worth" the officer asked.
"Hard to say, maybe 20 EUR" we said.
"What is it?"
"It's a .... we designed for <well> ... today presenting prototype ..."
"Ah, a prototype - so it must be worth more than just the parts price".
"Hm, yes, maybe, it depends."
"So what did you charge your customer for it?"
"Difficult to say. The developmentr cost about 30.000 Euro, and 3 prototypes are included in this price - but of course you can't say that one prototype costs 10.000 Euros".
"I see. Ok. So what would you charge me if I destroyed this prototype?"
And so it went on and on and on. About 20 minutes later we were finally allowed to pass without having to pay anything...

BTT: very nice watch, and it appears to be in near-perfect condition. Worth its US $480 plus duty, IMO :-D
