Suggestions for a future attempt at that look:
1.Start with a battered ss case/band - the finish will last better since the underlying material is harder to deform away from the paint(in the case of a collision).
2. Sandblast the entire thing before the paint(case/band/clasp), as the matte finish will be more even and the paint will stick MUCH better. Or find a heat treating place that does black nitride* finishes....probably less than $50, super hard stuff.
*black oxide is also good, not quite as durable.
Titanium oxides can be done as grey(usually golden) - it is is so hard you have to generally grind it off steel(and it is only microns thick!) with a diamond wheel as opposed to an ordinary grinding wheel.

Destroys an ordinary grinding wheel's surface on contact.
