Darth Vader P2

Post23 Feb 2011, 02:04

I took a ruined gold filled p2 case which had a large hole drilled thru the face at the 9 o'clock position, repaired it with jb weld and sprayed painted it matte black with clear coat. I think it looks cool and will get a working module to bring it to life.

I know it could have been repaired correctly but i was bored.

Sorry about the bad quality picture.

Mr Frog,

Dang. That is one wicked looking P2. I like it! If I were a feared ruler of the galaxy, that's what I would wear, for sure.

thanks for the positive review

i wanted this to be a daily wearer, that is why it is black, i will remove the nos black pulsar band because it is to delicate and rare for everyday, i will modify a regular band.

Suggestions for a future attempt at that look:
1.Start with a battered ss case/band - the finish will last better since the underlying material is harder to deform away from the paint(in the case of a collision).
2. Sandblast the entire thing before the paint(case/band/clasp), as the matte finish will be more even and the paint will stick MUCH better. Or find a heat treating place that does black nitride* finishes....probably less than $50, super hard stuff.

*black oxide is also good, not quite as durable.
Titanium oxides can be done as grey(usually golden) - it is is so hard you have to generally grind it off steel(and it is only microns thick!) with a diamond wheel as opposed to an ordinary grinding wheel. Destroys an ordinary grinding wheel's surface on contact. :x

Back to work.

...Or does it just look like it's been 'gun-metal'led'?

That is a cool watch, but i would not have done that to a ss p2 watch that was in need of tlc, that could have been save. The one that i played with had a large hole drilled in the face at the 9 o'clock position so no pulsars were sacrificed. :-)

Gus, I have a couple of cases that are so rough you'd barely have a logo left on the case by the time you got the scratches and gouges worked down. Pulsars with the logo on the glass need great glass AND a great case finish to be taken seriously - some cases don't make the mark and the highest use of their guts is going into a better case. You get itching to try that again, I can probably put you together a very workable case/band set, and I can do the sandblasting here.

A Date Command could be nice too.....lot more band choices.

If anyone has a case thats REALLY bad and wants to give it a shot, I might be able to powder coat it. I guess any color but I have a few different blacks if you are after the Darth look. I powder coated a deployant buckle for my Seiko Golden Tuna and it has held up wonderfully.

Let me know.
