Time warp...Louis Zanoni, picture.

Post01 Mar 2011, 14:58

Here Mr.Louis Zanoni holding a Segtronic Epsa-Optel he was instrumental in developing/producing in front of a display of him working on LCD at RCA.
The photo was made last friday by his son.

The picture physically bridges half a century in various ways; truely a time warp.

Now THAT is cool - thanks!

I changed the title of the thread.....a descriptive title is better than a cool phrase for bringing them in. ;-)

Seriously, how excited can you get over a display that looks like the clock on your Blackberry? Ok, I'm just jealous, a little.

Well, I actually háve them both.

My verdict is that they are on par when seen in their respective time.
Even in price they are compairable.

When compaired back to back the EPD wins on every single criterium and then some.
That is at it should. It simple proves that horology has evolved.
The EPD is basically the same thing only in 21st c. guise and showing all the improvements in technology, design and manufacturing.

My bottom line conclusion is that they form a wonderfull set representing the same niche in their respective eras almost 40 years apart.

Just fixed this for a customer...neat piece for an early LCD. Blinking diamond shaped colons...original owner(mongrammed case).

Is that Elgin your Ed? I have the same model, possibly with brown face on its way. I love the body shape.

Yeah, the Elgin is "mine". Actually for sale on my site. :-) I have another but the problem is the band is missing 1/2....took me a few years to find the missing band pieces for the first one. :x

Simply because it is a very legilble display

You use the same ´argument´ as mechanical worshippers have used for LCD being the same as on their GSM and LED as on their bedside alarm clock
