25 Years Of Mining.

Today I celebrated 25 years in the mining industry all 25 years at the same colliery, where did all those years go :eek:

Did I get a commemorative clock? Watch? Pen? Ashtray? - Nope, did anyone thank me for my years loyal service - Nope, did anyone even recognize the fact - Nope.........so I'm just an employee name on a payroll and a works number in amongst the rest - No big surprise!

Yeah, most employers don't do that stuff anymore....get a lot of '70s watches with "atta-boys" for years of service. Hey - good job!!

When I was growing up my Dad worked at the local GM plant, which had a large foundry. There were always the stories that got told to us kids about how some old timer had slipped off the catwalk into one of the crucibles, and somebody noticed a chunk of gold in the corner of one of the engines from that pour. Owowowowo - must be the dead man's gold 25 year watch :eek:

Good point there Ed. I have 2 LED watches and 1 LCD watch (70's era) in my collection that have the 'thank you for your years of service' type engraving on the back. Now days you are lucky to get a pen - literally.

I actually have a paper bag going of backs and clasps that have different inscriptions on them. Most people won't buy them, so I had this idea that if I had nothing but time :-?

one day, I would buy one of those flat, glass faced cases they make for displaying thinner items like packet watches or flags on the wall, and make some kind of a montage. :idea:
