Nice watch!

I know it has been given a rough ride here on the forum but personally I love the styling, I think it's an excellent combination of retro looks and modern technology.
I would like to own one, although the price is a smidging to high to tempt me at the moment.

Well done video and I like the technology in this latest Hamilton but I am not a fan of this watch. Just my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the video Huertecilla, are you planning to buy one?

I am smitten with the case styling too.

The price appéars high but when you combine a properly made electronics module with an autoquartz in a high quality housing it is actually ´on par´.

The only direct competitor on the market is the Ventura Vtec Sparc.

Also, the price is the RLP and I suspect they will sell discounted as that unfortunately has become the practice in the watch sector.

I apologize if this is offensive to those who love that watch, but I think it is the most overengineered POS I have seen for a while. It's essentially a negative display LCD with no special features, with a really sucky power reserve considering all the trouble they went to(a good lithium battery would have been fine). From an aesthetics standpoint I think it looks cheap, except when viewed from straight on. The stepped down sides look a little bit like something you'd see on the front of a ladies watch. And the rubber strap on the one in the Youtube video(above) just looked cheap as all.

It's overpriced(for no apparent reason) stuff like this that makes people hold up a Casio on their wrist and say, "well, this works just fine for me". :x

The Chinese, Swiss and all those other's just don't get it - make a nice looking, quality digital, with a great display, for around $400, and they will "sell like hotcakes"(fast). They've waited long enough - they could have a second LED craze. But they keep blowing it.

My $0.02

There is no discussing taste.

Personally I totally do not get the imo retrograde step to handicap a solid state module with a mechanical charging system.

I dó applaud the step into the higher end.

The Seiko EPD offers solar charging and rc on a very well performing module with a top notch display under ar coated sapphire starting at 600 Euros
Oops, I forgot, ´Phosfor make that a lot cheaper´ ;-)

The LCD SBPG001 is a lot more attractively priced still.

The way Í see it, it is quite good news to see the Swatch group entering the higher end of digital watches :!:
There surely is a market for well cased upmarket electronic digitals. It is not that electronic digital equals low price.
This main stream effort must surely be based on sóme marketing reseach.

Maybe we will one day see them appreciated enough for housing in 18k again 8-)
Even with only 50 grammes of 18k gold, such a watch would need to retail for some 4,5K Euros minimum.
That will never ever happed again if wis keep jumping on everything upmarket as ´the Chinese can top this for 400$´.

You are right - taste is individual. I expressed my personal opinion on the case's design.

I totally agree about the mechanical charging system - I don't understand what it is really accomplishing. "retrograde" / "regressive" - a weird step forward no matter how you say it. Like the triple axel in figure skating - a lot of spinning and good luck on landing the right direction. I clearly don't like it...I will [try]resist commenting further or at least until there is a truly new thread about that watch. 8-) ;*

Good point. I would much rather put my hard earned money into one of these Seiko's than this Hamilton. The solar charging alone makes those two Seikos are a far better choice than this mechanical/digital mishmash of a watch. After all, you don't have to 'tune up' a solar panel. ;-)

Well, you have me there. What is thís then :-? :?:

The charging system is borrowed from the ETA autoquartz and like I wrote as a concept nothing new since Ventura launched it over 10 years ago.

With this movement the marketeers are appealing at the mechanical worshippers, which they clearly do by printing the grossly incorrect ´automatic´ banner on the dial.

...and the SDGA00x has the EPD matri as the ´unique selling point´.

Owning/wearing the SDGA001, I heave become even móre convinced that electronic digital modules should be availeable in even higher end cases and with even better made bracelets.
I think that there is a market for this solar EPD in hardware on par with or better that the best Ventura Vtec.

The attention to the existance of this segment is a HUGE contribution by the Hamilton Pulsomatic.
Why is there no tc quartz EPD in réally top notch hardware? By all means in 18k too.
Solid state electronics is after all the most rugged,-reliable and technologically most advanced watch ´movement´ there is.

We can only hope they (the manufacturers) are listening. :-D

Well, the manufacturers knów.
The problem with horology is that the top end of the market is entirely dominated by the Swiss who have had their marketing promoting mechanicals since the mid sixties. With so much success that horologic ´journalism´ does not cover anything else, despite the segment they write about being less than 5% of the various types of watches sold worldwide.

Personally I am convinced that this generation of ´journalists´ does not know any better; lacks proper knowledge.
Next time you read a atch magazine just notice that it is basically a Swiss brochure poorly rephrased.
Obviously craftsmanship is impressive but most Swiss products dweeped about are cad-cam designed automated mass production. Nó craftsmanship involved
As a wátch it all has third rate performance.

I think that if wis-dom gives feedback to a journalist that his writing identifies him as an ignoramus he will be motivated to look beyond the next brochure of the watch he is asked to promote.
It will not change the contenst of the mag much because the ads department directs that, but the tone will change
I hope.

Just for completeness, here direct links to the other 3 Pulsomatic threads:
Launch of a new Hamilton Pulsomatic

New digital watch from Hamilton (40 years anniversary)

I've already said all I can say about this watch - including comparison with Ventura and wish that it had an e-ink display ;-)

I'll stay with my Ventura d-sparc px steel. It has a better display, also a generator (but only 4 weeks power reserve), a wonderful steel bracelet (no cheap plastic or rubber stuff), and last but not least it looks a lot better (IMVVHO) :-D

Well, like I remarked before, there is no dicussing taste.

Objectively seen the Sparc styling envelopes/accentuates the technology; of having a rotor charging the power for the display. The styling thus builds on the unique selling point of their (at the time) unique engine.

Personally I find the Sparc aesthetically less pleasing but I appreciate it a lot more.
