Congratulations! I've gotten as far as installing TurboTax, downloading the state module, and downloading all of the updates.

At least it imported all of last year's data so I don't have to input all of that.

Me, I had a mid-year computer crash and ironically my TurboTax folder wasn't one of the ones set for automatic backup to the secondary hard drive. Wasn't a big deal, I only have two pieces of larger equipment I am depreciating over years. Now it's off to the FAFSA(federal aid for student something) forms - they won't give our daughters in college a dime, but we STILL have to go through the paperwork twice a year. I think it's so the school can score some dollars from the government.

I was really curious what other countries torture their citizens at this time of year, in this fashion.

Oh isn't FAFSA fun? I filled out a few and used to be an administrator at a vocational college. Bunch of BS really.

Unfortunately, our tax dollars are steered toward the wrong people in education. At least my kids are half Filipino so they can claim minority status. I hate to even think of suggesting it but it almost seems like the government has made it necessary in order to get ANY money. My kids (boy/girl twins) are only 2.5 years old so I still have time to save up. :-)

That won't do you a bit of good(minority status)...Filipino isn't a group they care about. Basically only black or Native American. I'm 1/8 NA, so my kids would technically qualify. As far as I know none of my sibling has ever tapped into THAT racket. Despite 5-6 BAs, 2 Masters and 2 law degrees between the 5 of us.

Save money toward college - better yet, make sure the are GREAT students so you can tap into some scholarships. My oldest girl was in top 1% nationally on pre-college testing, which got us about $25k in scholarships, spread over 4 years. Her younger sister scored the same but is going back to boost her math score, since she wants to go into either psychology or engineering(strange stretch, I know). A professional scholarship hunter is worth the money to many people. I'll gladly pay someone 10% of what they can find, that I couldn't. Maybe there is a scholarship for "children who endured LED watches during primary years".

Some times the flat tax system sounds really sweet. UK citizens, this is your opportunity to say it ain't so. :x
