Seiko LCD Watch A639-5000

Post19 Apr 2011, 12:44

The watch sold for £450.00 (Item number 330553634734) which seems a lot for an ordinary looking 80s LCD watch

Is there anything special about this watch or is it a crazy bidder lucky seller scenario?

Full sceptic mode engaged- Seller bought own watch at BIN price of lots of pounds, tells Ebay Seller & Buyer have agreed not to complete sale so Seller gets final item fee back. Seller relists using another alias and points to this auction saying how one recently sold for loads of money and the current BIN price of half that price is a bargain (even though it is twice the price you can buy one of these watches for from other Sellers).

Now, I don't know for sure this is what might have happened, but......

Also, A639-5000s in almost pristine condition have been surfacing in droves from somewhere in the Far East for the last two years (I suspect Thailand, land of you want, we (f)make it for you). Usual Ebay price for one of these is £125 and sometimes you get a nice Thai original tags & Seiko box to go with it!

It is amazing how this kind of trend is taking place, in other item categories as well. I've seen it as well... an auction closing for a higher than normal price, then when you check for feedback there is none. And the same item appears under a different seller name a week or two later, curiously from the same location. I thought that a single person is not permitted to have more than one eBay ID, but... if you have a close friend or spouse who uses eBay too, that ID can be leveraged.
