Seiko m159-5059 Faint LCD

Post02 Jun 2011, 22:03

Hello,

I bought a Seiko m159-5059, but the LCD is extra faint. I checked the battery compartment, but it looks ok, clean and all. The light functions ok.

Does anyone have any insight to what it could be? Any information is helpful.

Thank you all.

Front polariser on LCD has "sunburn"! In other words it has lost most of it's ability to polarise the incident light. Very common in 30+ year old Seikos- easy fix- simply cut a new piece of (non adhesive for M159) polarising material to fit over display and insert (don't forget to check the plane of polarisation before cutting!).

Material (about .003" is right) is available from quite a lot of sources- beware of the thin stuff being sold to check for glass stressing, usually too dark for watches.

Self adhesive polarising film can be used. but is much more difficult to use- the protective films rotate the apparent PoP so you have to compensate for this.

Old Tom,

I understand what you are suggesting, but have any of us at DWF.NU put together instructions in a step by step format to complete the polariser replacement?

Does the piece of polariser material have to be put onto the LCD panel directly? How will it stay in place?

I have looked on the web for the polariser material, but I am not totally sure what I will need.

Anyway, let me know if possible.

Bad enough.

I ordered a sheet of the "High Contrast" from polarization.com:

- PFSC - Super-High-Contrast Polarizer without adhesive

Tried to cut this piece into the size of the LCD screen, and the poarizer looks to be too DARK!

Terrible. This watch now has become a huge thorn in my side. I originally tried peeling off the polarizer from a calculator LCD, but that polarizer was too sticky.

Does anyone know what the procedures are to cutting a piece of the polarizer sheet out and fitting it to the current LCD screen?

Any advice would really help.

Thank you all.
