Elektronika

Post29 Aug 2011, 09:05

Found myself a nice example of Sovjet design; a crisp Elektronika-1 with a non recessed red mineral glass window.

Image

It was made from 1977 till 1994 as ´proof´ of sovjet watch making excellence for the home market only and had this received exceptional attention to design. Both for the caliber and the styling.

One may love or loath it, but the design is well dimensioned, well thought through, consequent with matching designed bracelet and very much in its own style. There is no mistaking one for anything else.
Later examples can have a bracelet in a different style. Original fitment, but not as per the original design:

The very good quality, adjustable, caliber was hand made/assembled.
As further illustration of an alien world that no longer exists, the set price of the illustrated 1983 example was stamped in the clasp as anti-speculation measure.
Since it was the top of the range, it was never cheap and is relatively scarce.

Although you cán still find them reasonably cheap, the watch is increasingly appreciated.

And it's probably the record holder for number of buttons (calculator watches excluded) ;-)

Module photos?

That's a terrific looking watch, Huertecilla. Very modern design for the time. The bracelet looks great too.

Strange how there are 3 "setting" buttons on it, to compliment the 2 push buttons. I guess the idea of a multi-purpose single setting button was too complicated for the maker? I wouldn't be surprised if one inset button sets the hour, one sets the minute, and the other the day of the week.

Funny, the overall design looks similar to another LED watch that came out in the 70's, one incarnation put out by Benrus.
