Breitling Resurrection

Post08 Jul 2012, 04:15

Hi All.
You may recall that Juergen was selling a Breitling 9106 LED case and bracelet.
Well I bought it and have been busy trying to resurrect it.
Image
It needed a Frontier chronograph module, which I managed to source from Old Joe. Thanks Joe !
He also provided the 7.5mm low profile carrier for it which is the correct carrier.
A spacer ring was also required, which permits the 29mm module to locate into the 37mm case. Juergen dis-assembled one of his complete Breitlings(no mean feat !) and took accurate measurements. Thanks Juergen.
Peter (aka clockace) used his marvellous watchmaking skills to macine this for me to the exact requirements. It was quite a complex ring with steps and grooves necessary which had to be very precisely machined. He went to a lot of trouble to get it right.......excellent job Peter, and thanks once again. I filed the 4 notches into the ring for the pushers:

Here it is assembled :

The observant amongst you may notice that something is missing ;-) !
Yes, I'm still missing the dial. I'm keeping an eye out for one, but haven't had any luck yet. I live in hope.
Let me know if any of you ever come across one.

Big thanks again to Peter, Joe and Juergen.
Rgds,
Andrew.

very nice, i think you have to buy another dial now and cut the middle out so you can allready wear this beauty till you find the
original dial.

Great job guys, very nicely done.
Wonderful that you were able to help eachother out :-D
Maybe you can add a picture of one that has the missing dial
so we know what to look for.
Of course we can all google it....but. !@@!

Greetings and applause!

Yep, I've been thinking of doing that.
Not ideal, but better than nothing. I'll probably give it a go if I can get a good scan.

Problem is, they aren't simple to dis-assemble. To remove the dial you have to remove the spacer ring. To remove the spacer ring you have to remove the pushers. To remove the pushers you have to remove four of the tiniest screws I've ever seen..............they're literally the size of a flea !
And then the ring is a very tight fit which is quite difficult to get out.

So if anyone's willing to do this, I'd be very grateful :-D

andrew, in looking at the photo, from a repairman's position, it would seem that the notches for the pushers would be facing downward, so the spacer could be removed w/o taking out the pushers. i think you could still do that, altho' you would have to alter the spacer. the lip on the bottom would need to be cut out. i believe you said the dial was glued to the bottom of the spacer, so if that is the case it would have to be the way it is now. peter

I think the dial will prove to be the most difficult part to find and patience might be the name of the game.
I had a scout around and came across a couple of Brietling slide rules on eBay that might be made into something workable, $29.99 item number 160702905786 or $39.99 item number 160831452492.
Or maybe you might get lucky with some old stock from this seller http://www.watchco.com.au/breitling_dials.htm or a replica part from http://www.replicacchanel.com/breitling ... -dial.html web site states "We provide a great variety of high quality Breitling Spares Parts Dial with different prices." probably all a bit of a long shot but you never know you might get lucky.

Good job ;-)
May also be an option to find a badly beaten up Navitimer with broken module and ripped off bracelett :!:
