New member with new watch

Post24 Jul 2012, 14:59

Hi
I'm a member of a few other watch forums and have been collecting mainly seiko lcd's and seiko mechanical chronographs for about 20 years, this watch below is only my second ever vintage Led to get added to my collection, I have a sicura led as well.
the watch I'm showing today was a recent grab from a relative who knew I liked old watches. It's a "Wells", yep I've never heard of them either  I've had a bit of a google about it and I've come by a little info regarding the module being a texas instruments but that's about it, the manual is dated 1974, would this be the date of manufacture?
cheers all

Welcome to the community Wookster! You've been bitten by the LED wasp, once you get infected, you can't stop collecting more and more of them.
"Wells" was the brand used by Texas Instruments to market its first LED watches, if I remember correctly. If I also remember well, they stopped using that brand in favour of the TI one (with the debut of the cheap TI LED models). You surely have a nice and well kept model, and you should show to us the Sicura you've mentioned too! :-D

It seems to be one of the early LED watches, so it might be from the early '70s. It's interesting to see that the watch has an Omega TC-esque styling for the command button, and the display has a Time Computer-esque feeling too. Maybe the experts will shed some light about this model and its module. :-)

Sadly the Sicura is not much to write home about, but on the plus side it is fully working

That Sicura has surely a distinctive styling. You've started your LED collection nicely, I came here with only two watches too, and now my fifth one is coming.
Welcome in the club! :-D

Hi
nope, never, it's been in a drawer since the late 70's ( with batteries removed ~:( ) A proper "in the wild" find.
